"We were so excited to receive the desks for our store. When we began to assemble them we realized that what was sold to us as all hardwood was partially, in fact, particle board. When we pulled the desk drawers out of the box, the faces broke off (both desks). Upon inspection, we could see that not only were they particle board but, they had been put together with short screws and lots of glue. At that point, we had the desks mostly assembled so we opted to have the drawers repaired (more $ but less than shipping and waiting and UN assembling!) when the drawers came back, we slid them into the tracks...only to find out that the PLASTIC stoppers on the tracks were broken...therefore the drawers wouldn't go in...ball bearings even fell out!! No smooth rolling there!!! We are now in the process of trying to get new (better quality) tracks put on the drawers. More $$. Not happy!!"

"After reading all the prior reviews about ill fitting drawers & poor quality or damaged panels, I was a bit leery to purchase this desk. However, I did give it a shot, & it all went together very well. I have assembled things similar to this many times & have cursed the terrible engineering, so I had quite the negative attitude about how it would go together. Either I was lucky, & received a very good one, or the manufacturer has heeded the negative reviews & tightened their quality control. One of the best I have ever put together."

"The price was right and the customer service excellent, but the a couple of the pieces of the product were splintered when they arrived. I used wood glue to make sure they stayed attached and then began assembly. There were a lot of pieces but the instructions were good for the most part. I had two pieces of the desk that were mismarked which caused some confusion, but took the time to realize that based on the pictures in the instructions. Additionally, the drawer sliding mechanism was too high and the desk drawer would not shut, I had to remove it and reattach is lower so that it would slide and shut properly. I also changed out the hardware to give it a less rustic look. I would not recommend this product, but I would recommend Home Decorators Collection, their customer service was amazing during all this."

"This desk and hutch were a ton of work for my husband to put together- the locks/screws don't seem to line up easily and, in his words, he couldn't think of a more complicated way to design something so simple. However, now that it is together, it looks great. I was worried that the wood wouldn't be real wood, but it seems to be. I love the finished look and everything ultimately lines up and works without sticking, etc. I would suggest that its a wonderful deal for the price PROVIDED you are prepared to put it together and do some tinkering with the screws, etc. My husband is a very handy guy who can build stuff from scratch and he found this to be annoying."

"I needed to purchase a desk, asap, to work from home. I have ordered from Home Decorators before, and decided to give the furniture a try. I LOVE the appearance of this desk. My spouse put it together, and said the instruction were good. It has great features....place for a hidden keyboard and mouse.....additional space for the modem and router with a way to thread the cords, so you do not see them. Thank you Home Decorators !!!!"

"Very cheap materials. Low quality particle board and what appeared to be PAPER board. The hardware was flimsy given the weight of the desk. The cam locks never were tight. One bent instead of locking. The left side of the desk was not manufactured correctly and it would not allow the back or top to fit correctly. I had to trim a piece of the back to allow the desk to fit together and further drill the holes to allow the top to fully seat on the desk body. The holes for the dowels were drilled giving VERY thin walls in poor quality particle board which were weak. Some split during assembly and had to be repaired prior to finishing the project. With all the repairs and waiting for the glue to set, it took a day instead of a couple of hours to put the kit together.
By the time I discovered the defect in manufacturing it was way too late to try to send it back--would have been worse than solving a Rubik's cube to put it back into the box."

"We ordered this desk several months ago and finally received it. The first one we got we noticed that the holes did not match up after spending an hour or so putting it together, so they shipped us another one. Once we received that one, we got the entire desk put together and on the last step (putting the middle drawer on) the hinge broke off, which is something that is already assembled when you get it. Horrible product...do not buy!"

"Holes for assembly did not match up. One piece was broken. We still cannot get the drawer to close. I purchased this in conjunction with a bookshelf which was also a disaster. The main shelf was broken right in half. I would never shop here again."

"We were attracted by the looks of this desk when we were looking to downsize and modularize in our home office. This piece definitely fit that criteria. Unfortunately, as with other reviewers, we also found the key problem area for this desk to be the keyboard tray. I don't understand why HD has not addressed this common issue echoed by so many reviewers. After aggrevating for some time trying to get the tray to slide in all the way, I unscrewed both rails and switched them. That seemed to make more sense and we were finally able to get the tray to fit however it doesn't consistently stay and easily pops out of alignment. Another thing to point out is that this piece chips easily. A point we found out with all the abuse the desk took as we struggled to try to get the keyboard tray working right. Apart from this the unit is sturdy and the assembly otherwise was uncomplicated. The looks definitely meet our expectations."

"Desk was delivered in good condition and the light oak color is rich with only very minor deficiencies in the finish - nothing that can't be remedied with a furniture marker. Rear panel of computer cabinet did not line up properly with the grooves made for it in the bottom & sides or the cabinet and underside of the desk surface. Had to force it together and the pressure of misaligned pieces being forced to align correctly caused a large crack while moving the desk after assembly was completed. Luckily, the crack is not in a noticeable place and does not detract from the integrity of the piece. Drawer was also cut wrong; front panel does not recede into desk as it should when drawer is properly in the track. (It will recede into the desk if the drawer rides incorrectly on top of the track!) Can likely fix this by ripping it apart and drilling new holes but haven't tried yet. Got this at a significant discount; would be more upset if I had paid full price."

"This desk is a lovely piece for my computer work station. It is sturdy. Color uniform with other dark oak artisan pieces. "Ample" work space is what you get but when paired with other artisan pieces I have a nice looking work area with plenty of storage. Can be assembled by 1 person but needs another to help lift to standing. It arrived with 1 damaged piece which was replaced by the wrong part but then by the correct one."

"This desk comes in two boxes. It's not overly difficult to put together but it was made easier by having 2 people work together on it.
This desk is fair for the price but ours had some damage straight out of the box. The top of the desk, in the dead center, had a nick out of the wood and some scratches where the finish was scratched right off. If it was in a less conspicuous place it wouldn't bother me as much, but this damage is very obvious and very disappointing.
Another thing that bothered me about the workmanship is that they put stickers all over it to help you put it together but the stickers are on the outside parts of the desk and difficult to come off without scratching the finish. You'd think they could hide the stickers a little better and put them on inside edges. Also the back of the desk had a huge white sticker on it saying who manufactured it, and I haven't been able to get the sticker off completely. Luckily our desk is up against a wall but if you placed the desk in the middle of a room, the sticker looks awful.
My last comment would be regarding the color. We ordered Dark Oak. The coloring is nice but not really what I expected. The "Dark Oak" has a very reddish look to it, almost like a mahogany. Just be forewarned in case you're hoping it will match other dark oak furniture you have.
Overall the desk looks decent and it was a fair price but the quality just isn't what I expected."

"Desk is great, not too big, and not too small, and a good fit for not so big of an area. Color is great as well. Desk space is good too. Just enough desk space for putting in papers, pencils, and not too big or cumbersome. Great buy, really enjoy it! Just alittle hard assembling, which took longer than expected. Otherwise, great desk for the price!"
