"We are so pleased with these two bookcases on each side of our fireplace providing abundant display and storage space. The built-ins we intended during home construction never happened, and our corner walls in this living area have been bare almost six years. What a difference it makes to complete this room…the dark shelves pop against the white-washed bead board walls because the backs are open. Customer service was also very helpful before purchase concerning our question whether the back of each case was also finished in order to flip the second case for a mirrored effect to balance the room. The size (54"x54") was a rare but perfect fit for our space since we have windows above each bookcase. Expect this item to be bit heavy and to have a slightly rustic finish. A great value and no regrets...We love it!"

"The Maldives Bookcase is stunning. The shelves are substantial thick shelves and crafted from beautiful substainable wood. The arrangement of the "cubbies" make this piece unique from all the other cube cases out there. The only con I had was the woods a little rough in some areas. But I could work around that. I love it!"

"I love my new bookcase. It looks like I expected...maybe slightly better. It was positively FILTHY when I got it, though. I've never seen that. It also took the movers a long time to get the bookcase upstairs (about an hour). It's a very heavy piece, but I couldn't understand why the movers didn't know that beforehand. They said they needed an extra man.
We certainly knew it. That's why we decided to just pay for the 'white glove' service. Definitely advisable, if you need the piece to travel up or down stairs with a fairly tight turn.

"We love this bookcase. It's heavy, have friends available to help you get it in the house. But is pretty wood, easy to dust and really makes a statement. The friend that helped us get it up the stairs was overheard telling his wife they need to go look at it for themselves!"

"The Maldives wide bookcase is a great addition to our living room. The only negative is there were some nails that are popping through on the inside of a couple of the shelves. The items I placed on the shelves cover them so I didn't think it was a big deal as it fits the rustic look. The overall construction is quite sturdy and aesthetically pleasing."

"I have nothing but the best things to say about this open book case. I have been looking for years now to find a rock-solid and good looking book case for my LP collection, and this one is just perfect. It looks great, complements my hardwood floors (which are walnut color also) holds the many LPs beautifully, and you can be sure your friends will envy you when they see it. I can highly recommend this book case."

"The Maldives Bookcase is a great show piece to add to your room. It definitely makes a bold statement and is a beautiful conversation piece if it fits your decor. It is very "rustic" looking - and as the other reviewers have noted has a few nicks/bumps from the journey to you. Also please note it is extremely heavy and with the normal shipping they do not bring it in your house. So, plan for that if that is what you go with!"

"The bookcase came broken. Unfortunately it was poorly finished too. I own the narrow Maldives bookcase, which is very nice and the surface is smooth and shiny,which I can not tell about the wide one. They are just finished in different way. I wanted to return the piece but HD gave me a good deal so I kept the bookcase. It needs some work but with the deal I think it's worth it. I just love this bookcase."

"The finish is rustic, but I like that. Very heavy- 230lbs!, which is great once you get it in place but heavy to move into the house. Mine arrived scratched, but Home Decorators offered a discount or replacement, great customer service.
We have gotten lots of compliments on this unique piece!"
