Love this piece; hate the cam locks

"This is probably my sixth or seventh piece in the artisan collection because I love the way it looks and everything matches. So I think I'm pretty good at putting these pieces together, but I still had a couple of problems. This piece wasn't too difficult to put together, but have to agree with a previous reviewer that the diagram is ambiguous and I put one part in backwards. I didn't realize it until I tried to put the drawers in and found the stop was in backwards, so had to pull it all apart and start over.
I must have had a bad bunch of cam locks, because the stupid things started loosening up immediately! I continued on with the assembly, hoping that when I got enough pieces put together, they would hold each other in place, but nope, the cam locks are still loose. I'm going to have to pull it apart AGAIN and put some sort of glue down each cam lock and clamp it until it sets to keep it sturdy.
This is unusual; I've never had problems with other items in the Artisan line that I've purchased."

"I am giving this unit five stars across the board, as I am basing this review upon today's standards for construction. This in no way diminishes my satisfaction w/this unit. I am old school on cabinetry (dado, glue, and screw). But the post and cam-lock does offer a good hold and is much less work.
For the price, this unit is an excellent value. It is well constructed, and the components fit. The instructions could be improved. They should be proofed(edited) by someone with an understanding of grammar, syntax, and detail. Additionally, during assembly, I completed a "rough" assembly (no actual connections) to double check the wood dowel positions. This paid off as the instructions are ambiguous on these points. If you glue the dowels without this extra step, you could be in trouble.
The use of screws is good on handles, hinges, and the back panel. It takes time, but is worth it. A drill/driver for the numerous back panel screws is advised, BUT SET IT AT THE LOWEST TORQUE SETTING and finish torquing the screws with a GOOD #2 Phillips screwdriver. Do not over torque the screws! The inclusion of extra "cam-locks" was smart. One fractured on me during lock-down. It happens.
Again, overall, I am pleased. Take your time. It pays off!"

"Total piece of garbage. First off I have brown fingerprints in the white paint right on the top of the unit. I put the unit together as instructed only to realize the instructions were wrong, or so I thought. It turns out the piece orientation was correct. The problem was that the two boards that make the top and bottom of the housing for the drawers at the bottom of the unit are veneered on the wrong edge. The side that should be facing back is now facing forward on the unit so I don't have unfinished particle board showing but now I can't install the drawer stops because the holes are offset to the back of the unit, not the front where they should be. For the price of this thing I expected much better quality. Particle board throughout, cheap garbage held together by junk cam locks, doors that have unsightly gaps, not enough coats of paint/wood showing through... Do not buy!!"

Very Poor Quality Pressboard!

"We bought this because the description stated "Made from wood". When it arrived, I was shocked that it needed assembly. It uses the cheap cam lock system and the structural panels are pressboard with a lousy painted wood veneer. The box did not have any instructions so I had to wing the installation. The pressboard on the bottom piece broke the corner out when tightening the cam lock so I had to clamp and glue it overnight to repair it. The hinges are cheap stamped tin pieces that do not allow you to align the door gap equal all the way around. The only good thing about it is that it looks nice once assembled as long as you don't look too close at the painted wood grain veneer."

"Cabinet looks great in our powder room. Worth the back order wait. Went together pretty easy, but had trouble getting the top to stay attached. Eventually got it. (not exactly sure how hubby did it...) We had previously ordered Artisan vanity and mirror. Love them all."

"This product was the worst product I have purchased from home decorators. The pressed wood seemed less sturdy than normal and the wood for the drawers was so light weight, it broke, when I accidently placed my hand on it when I leaned back. It snapped into.
The "wood" cracked in several places, when I was tightening the Cam locks, so take great care when turning cam locks. I was tightening them, becasue several seemed to loosen right up as soon as I released them....do not tighten!
Somehow it ended up looking cute, even with a crack showing in the front--will have to paint or putty this. Fortunately the worst cracks were inbetween the drawers, where the cam locks broke through to the other side and are not visible.
The color is white.
The only thing saving this piece, is the cuteness factor.......
WOULD NOT REC. ANYONE purchase this item due to poor quality of the press wood. The backing somehow seemed to be the sturdiest part..."

"This bathroom wall cabinet was on sale in the Dark Oak-it looked very different in design-reminds me of an old pirate's chest! It arrived completely unassembled and it does take between 3 and 4 hours to put together-and this is with a handy person. You will need a battery-powered screwdriver. It is very sturdy and beautiful once it is assembled. I absolutely love it! The hardward and wood have a much richer look than you would think for the low price. But again, prepare yourself for the difficult and time-consuming assembly."

"When tightening the cams the wood split. Advertised as wood cabinet but was not specific that it was pressed wood. Did not realize that it came totally unassembled. Not easily put together. I will return the item!!!"

"I love this collection. The pieces from this collection are really pretty easy to put together. The instructions are clear and all the pieces are clearly marked. All the parts come in sealed baggies that are labeled so there is no question which screw you should be using on each step. The drawers are cleverly designed to make it very easier to make and slip into place. I was impressed."

"I love the look of this wall cupboard. It has beautiful wood grain and is solid. The black hardware goes well with the theme of the room. The only thing I'm not crazy about are the felt disks used to cover the bolts on the bottom - they're visible, and don't match the finish. Otherwise, I'm very glad I have this piece!"

"Good looking product, fairly strong assembly design. Love the fact that they not only tell you to use glue to assemble it, but they include it in the packet. The drawings for the part orientation could have been a little clearer (i actually installed one part backward. I loved the individual packages labelled with thier appropriate letter, although they should have been clear plastic so you could see the part w/o having to open it. The only other complaint was it is still fiber board, but they stained the fiber board the same colour as the wood, and anywhere that matter was made out of wood so it didnt feel cheap, and i know it was also why it was a good deal."
