"The assembly instructions were confusing and some of the parts illustrated that not match the parts in the box, especially the rail system on which the files are supposed to slide. Still sitting in our kitchen yet to be finished being assembled."

"Assembly instructions stink! Sticky grease on glides gets everywhere, very difficult to get draws to click into tracks, & not perfectly square, which makes it difficult to open and close the draws.
There is also a hairline crack (about 8 inches long) running down the face of the right side panel.

"While the cabinet is great, the direction for assembly are horrible. The back panel is just off being square and no markings as to which way to put in. If this is done wrong, the entire cabinet has to be taken apart and you start over. Also the metal the screws are made of is too soft and become stripped ."

"I bought this Parson's file cabinet in orange because of the price, and because it matches the orange loft desk I bought a while ago quite nicely; I was very hesitant due to the negative reviews, but am very happy that I went with it.
While it does take some time to put this file cabinet together, it was quite straightforward all in all. The best advice I can give is to read veevee's review (in my browser, it's currently the second review on page 2 of the reviews, dated July 12, 2012). When I first got the package, I unpacked everything and laid everything out in order. I then installed the glides as per veevee's advice--I used latex gloves everytime I handled the glides so that I wouldn't get the grease on the other parts (the grease will stain). Be sure to take the glides apart by pushing up on the black plastic tab which acts as the glide lock. After that, I put together the top drawer and then put everything together without screws to check the fit and finish. After that, I put together the main drawer and put it all together. It looks great, and for the price, the quality is very good."

Terrible assembly instructions

"Well, that is three hours of my life I will never get back. I am fairly handy. I have good spacial thinking. I have good tools. But egad, the instructions were so obtuse and unclear, so superficial, that it was nearly impossible to figure out how to assemble this thing correctly. Several pieces required trial and error before I could figure out the correct orientation and tooling. Each try, of course, degrading the pieces and hardware. How hard would it be to create good instructions, reliable hardware and pieces that fit as they are supposed to? While the actual final piece may be nice, it is simply not worth the headache of putting this thing together. I purchased several items and each was worse than the other in terms of assembly."

"Assembly directions, particularly as to the drawer slides, was really inadequate (there are "safety catches" that are not even mentioned - good luck discovering them) . The larger bottom drawer slides do not work at all well and the drawer is very hard to open and shut."

"I had hoped for a relatively inexpensive and attractive small file cabinet. Assembly was more complicated than I expected, made more time-consuming by directions that leave some gaps. (For example, the rails for the drawers need to be taken apart in order to install one part on drawer and one on cabinet. No description of this or of unlocking mechanism. If you don't have 'file cabinet' experience, this is confusing.) The lubricant on the rails gets on your hands as well as on the finish unless you are wearing rubber gloves to deal with the rail dissection and is soap-resistant. Use Goo-Gone.) At the end of the assembly, the drawers didn't line up and, on mine, the front edge was damaged in manufacturing and painted over so I have scratch across the front about 8" long that clearly wasn't part of the design. At this point, however, returning the file cabinet is obviously out of the question. This is an okay product if you have low expectations. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend. (You can see the misalignment and scratch above the top drawer in the photo, along with the fingerprints I haven't been able to remove yet from the drawer lubricant.)"

"and for the most part, it's undeserved. It was delivered yesterday and I spent probably twice as much time as necessary putting it together due to an error on my part. (I had side H and side I reversed.)
Here are some hints: lay out your parts and pieces in order. The instructions show the glides as in 2 pieces but they come as one. You can always take them apart if you want to do it like the instructions. Make sure that the glides are installed BEHIND the edge of the cabinet, not flush with the edge. (You should line up your first screw in the back in the SECOND hole not the first. You will have to slide the glide in order to find the other two holes. All holes were drilled in the correct place.) DO NOT force the cam bolts when turning them like you are Hercules. They don't need it and they won't break if you use just a moderate turn of the screwdriver.
The cons: the finish is fragile. Construct your piece on a soft surface. I wouldn't recommend this cabinet for a child's room but it would be great in a guest room or an adult office. I also wouldn't leave any beverages on it. It probably gets drink rings very easily. Another con is that the wood does leave splinters after driving screws in some cases. Just be aware of the possibility that you might pick up something in your skin.
The pros: it's a solid little piece (nothing is precariously leaning on itself like someone said) and decent value for the money. You probably couldn't get something at this price at Target. Enjoy it for what it is and remind yourself it won't be on Antiques Roadshow in 50 years. I think it's worth taking a shot if you need a little cabinet and have patience and time to build it."

"I just loved the look of this and the choice of colors. I bought three of the colors to use together. The finish is better than I thought it would be. The only problem is that on two of the drawers they are a bit sticky. I hope that will resolve in time."

"I am the person my friends call to assemble their Ikea furniture - I am pretty handy and know how to follow directions. This file cabinet is a nightmare. The directions that come with the product don't match (the drawer sliders arrive as one unit, not two as shown) and the pre-drilled holes are not in the right place. I had to take the piece apart TWICE to re-drill the holes to get the drawers to align and the casters just plain don't fit. Do not buy this. Believe the reviews. Home Decorators should not sell this product. I eventually got it together with the help of a carpenter friend because I am too annoyed to get it in a box and send it back."

"I have put together a lot of furniture so when I saw that many people were having difficulty putting together this file cabinet I thought it might be frustrating but doable. I was wrong. Not only were the directions woefully incomplete but the the cam locks (that hold the drawers and the top together) are so cheaply made that 5 of them broke. So the cabinet is not so much put together as precariously resting together. Do not buy this unless you enjoy enjoy wasting your money and time."

"Seriously! I'm pretty adept at putting these types of things together and though there are a lot of pieces putting it together is really not horribly difficult. But when I was finished I found out the two drawers did not match up so they both would not fit in the cabinet at the same time. Home Decorators sent me new cover panels for the drawers, but they were drilled differently than the existing drawers. So HD sent me new drawers. I put the first one in and the drawers guiderail busted. Ugh! What a nightmare! Find one that's already put together and save yourself the hassle..."

"The file cabinet was OK-we already had on in another color. However, the instructions with this one were incomplete(missing 2 pages). Fortunately, I had the old instructions and despite the fact they had changed somewhat was able to complete the assembly successfully. When I turned over the completed cabinet however, there was what appeared to be dirt on the back of the top. Unfortunately this was actually some type of flaw (not a major one)in the finish but was of a dark color which contrasted with the medium orange cabinet color. Since it was such an effort to put together and I would have had to disassemble it to return it, I kept it and hid the flaw by strategic placement of a lamp. We like the cabinet and our first one as well. But for the above problems it was a good value and meets our needs."

"I couldn't even finish assembly of this product as every cam lock I tried to fasten would break. I thought I had been to rough at first with the screwdriver but even as I used light pressure to secure the locks they would break."
