"The file glide straps supplied with the cabinet are to wide in height and to short in length. After a trip to Home Depot for a piece of aluminum strap and then cutting it into the correct 15 7/8" lengths the hanging files work just fine. I really shouldn't have to do the quality control for this manufacturer."

"After placing the hanging files and the inner file folders with documents in this cabinet, I'm very disappointed. The metal hanger rods continually fall out of the holes meant to hold the rods in place. The files continually fall, leaving the files in disarray in the bottom of the drawer."

"First, the good part: as file cabinets go, this is quite handsome. It actually looks like a piece of furniture rather than a nasty metal bin, which is great if you want or need to have a file cabinet in your bedroom like I do.
Unfortunately, the outside appearance is the only grounds on which I'd recommend this item. First of all, DO NOT order this item if you are not able-bodied, unless you can count on the assistance of at least one (maybe even two) other people. It is delivered fully assembled, in a massive, unwieldy box that weighs 90 pounds. It was a real challenge for me to get the package off of my porch and up two flights of stairs to my bedroom single-handedly-- the combination of the weight and large dimensions (with no good handholds on the box) makes it almost impossible to navigate up narrow flights of stairs on one's own, if one is of only average strength.
Once you are ready to get it out of the box, be prepared to be buried under a veritable avalanche of packing materials-- dozens of pieces of styrofoam and cardboard. Not to mention two thick slabs of plywood (for strength in the packaging, I guess) that contribute to making the box so heavy.
The cabinet itself is made of MDF/veneer within a metal framework. Mine had a few faint scratches in the finish, but more importantly, the front panel of one of the drawers was split/chipped on top. Nothing crippling, but still pretty discouraging.
The most curious part: the file hanging rails in the drawers are mounted to the front of each drawer, but they arrived attached to the back of each drawer with nothing other than masking tape. (No, that's not a typo.) Given that I've never seen a piece of furniture assembled with masking tape before, I assumed this was a manufacturing error and contacted HDC to complain, but after a bit of investigation they got back to me to report that this was in fact intentional, and I should just remove the masking tape, leaving the rails resting in the groove they were inserted in (but not actually solidly attached). Well, maybe that's the official design of this item, but I still think one should expect more for this kind of price than furniture held together with nothing other than masking tape and gravity.
Also, standard hanging file folders don't slide smoothly on the rails-- the rails are painted with a rough paint coating that looks nice (it matches the metal finish of the external frame) but is not smooth enough to allow file folders to slide well.
All in all, this looks great just sitting there in the room, but given all of its other problems, I can't recommend it as anything other than eye candy."

"This is a great piece. It is very nice looking and functional except for one thing. You can not use the hanging file folder labels. They stand up too high and get caught when trying to close the drawer. The rods should have been put in a bit lower to accomodate.
This is disappointing but I just labeled the folders inside the hanging file folders to compensate."

"I love this file cabinet. There is a strong smell from the stain/varnish at first, but this wears off. The thing came fully assembled so I didn't have to put it together at all. Also, it could not have been packed better.
The only problem is that I wanted to use the bottom shelf as a legal, and I cannot remove the metal bar inside the drawer once it's been installed. Not such a huge deal because I can always cut it."
