"I ordered the Buttercup shade bookcase with the glass doors. First THE GOOD: The bookcase arrived very quickly within days of ordering. It was packaged very well, all of the pieces were there. The shade is a nice, bright yellow and I did not think there was any lime/greenish color to it as I had read from other reviewers.
THE BAD: If you read the directions or throw them in the trash, you will have the same outcome. On the directions, the wood dowels and 2 part screw pieces are backwards so switch those around in the steps. Make sure to map out your steps in advance with the pieces so that you don't have to waste time going back to unscrew everything. Make sure the pieces have a lip all the way around the back so that the back will fit on. Add the glass doors before adding the back of the bookcase. Make sure another person is in the front holding the doors completely level while the other person screws the back on. We did this because a lot of people complained about the doors and knobs being way off. Ours match completely but I did have to hold them in place while the hubby was applying the back. It took us about an hour and a half from start to finish once we figured it out. The bookcase looks great in our new guest room."

"Received the bookcase. It was missing the instructions, 3 screws and had a gouge in the front door. Would not purchase again. The customer service department did offer their assistance which I was thankful."

The Perfect Choice

"Must've looked at dozens of china cabinets to show off my antique jadite dinnerware. This Southport bookcase in buttercup yellow, with glass doors, was the absolute perfect choice for my 1930 style kitchen and dining area. Everyone is delighted with its simple, but elegant, good looks.
Assembly went without a hitch. Previous experience with this type of furniture helped. One shelf had some damage to the paint. Fortunately, it was on an undersurface and not seen. All screw holes were accurately placed, and the doors hang perfectly. Delivery across the country was three days faster than expected."

"Purchased two units. One had missing hardware packet and two broken cross pieces. Called and was sent replacement items. No big deal. Fairly easy to put together. About two hours start to finish. NOT enough glue provided. Advise you to have some extra clear drying glue on hand to use. Provided glue will do about half of the job. Go easy on the glue. More should be provided. Hand press wood dowels in. Do not use a rubber mallet."

"I built this by my self with slight difficulty balancing the doors and selves since there is no cross bars to keep the selves from wanting to fold up on itself.
Otherwise, it just took patience and time.
Took about 1 1/2 hours with careful reading of instructions and assembling.
The materials are soft and the paint is thin, so careful handling them.
However, it looks great after it is assembled and it serve my purpose to hold light materials such as towels and toiletries.
I like it so much I purchased two more cabinets in the same series."

"I wanted to use just three shelves to display tall dolls in this. It turned out perfect, with the adjustable shelves. Using only three shelves it was better to put the back on before the doors to stabalize the unit and ended up with a perfect fit of the doors. Very happy with the quality, especially at this price. At some points in the assembly you will need two people."

"I purchased two of these book cases with the glass doors for my sewing room. They arrived in perfect condition and were easy to assemble with two people. The quality is much higher than I expected. The colors (buttercup and oak) and the details are beautiful. They are perfect for storing my fabric and books. This was my first purchase here. I just ordered the hamper from the same collection and I can't wait for it to arrive."

"Love the buttercup color. Very sturdy cabinet. Glass doors are temperglass - not the cheap glass in some furniture you buy on line. Easy to put together, but I have a lot of experience so am familiar with some of the terminology. :) My first purchase from this site, and will definitely buy again. "For how much you pay for this thing it is extremely cheap. Three of the four legs have already broken off while we were putting it together. Once the cabinet was together it was still very wobbly. The doors do not line up at all and the hinges are not adjustable to fix it. Worst purchase I have made in a long time. This will be getting boxed up and sent back, so please don't waste your money and time on this product."

"I love this bookcase - it was just what I was looking for. Unfortunately, my husband and I are not builders. We had a very difficult time putting on the doors. Some of the holes were not drilled for the placement of the brackets so our doors are off slightly which makes the knobs off, etc. And, of course, by the time you get to the doors the whole thing is put together so its too late to take it apart to send it back. I would really love this if the doors were even. We will never order something with doors again."

"I ordered this piece to be used for books but then found that it was roomy enough to display some glasses, dishes, cookbooks, etc. It is very sturdy, well made and attractive. The only drawback was that color was not expected. I ordrerd the yellow/butternut color and it aerrived looking more like yellow/lime tint. Thankfully it still works with my color decor, otherwise I am very happy with it!"

"The color is way off. Has a green tint to it. I have to decide to paint the wall or the cabinet. Seeing it has a high gloss even with primmer I'm not sure if it will hold well."

"I purchased this glass-doored bookshelf for my acupuncture treatment room to display items. It was okay to assemble; instructions were good, but getting the hinged glass doors on proved a bit tricky due to the weight of the doors and lining up those tiny holes for the screws. Also, I had one bogus screw that I had to replace from my own supplies. It seems very solid once assembled, however.
The shelf sat out in a large room for over 2 weeks before I finally put it in my office; it's very fumey even after all that time. If I had to sleep in a room with it, it would be nauseating."
