"Purchased this for our office at home. Assembly was difficult because there are so many pieces and you need a lot of room. Finish was nice a few rub marks but can be touched up with furniture color markers.
Delivery was quick 3-4 days from order. The drawers operate smoothly. The drawers are a little shallow the file folders with stick up because they hit the bottom of the drawer for legal size. The regular file
folders I haven't tried yet."

Attractive but difficult to assemble

"We ended up hiring a professional cabinet maker to assemble this piece and the console filing cab, double bookcase, and desk from the same collection. It took him at least 2 days to complete the work! And this piece was the worst. The drawers are not great quality, and two of the gliders were broken. We had to re-order parts, which took I think a month to arrive! It was a headache, but the set is really very attractive and I think will hold up OK. Just be ready to work for it if you are interested!"

"The file cabinet was slightly damaged when it arrived and the color was darker than than the desk I previously ordered. The poor packaging makes it impossible to return the product so we will make do."

Good Price - Difficult Assembly

"They shipped the filing cabinet on time. It was packaged well. Some issues with damage, reported by other consumers, could be caused by carrier.
The product was missing some hardware, but I was able to modify the assembly process to make it work. I am a big fan of using carpenters glue for projects like this. This is why I put difficult to assemble because the joints would have not held together without some knowledge of carpentry.
After assembly, the drawers were very hard to install into the slide rails. Additionally, the drawers would not line up flush with the outside frame. Modification had to be done to the drawer rails to make them flush.
Overall, if you are looking for a weekend project, this is for you. If you are looking for a quick assembly, you might want to look elsewhere."

"I waited for this piece to go on sale. Its one of the best looking file cabinets I have seen - looks wonderful in my home office. Took my skilled husband about 1 and a half hours to put it together. Love it!"

"I do not recommend this filing cabinet or the matching armoire. Products look nice, BUT we had NUMEROUS problems trying to assemble and use them, including no hole drilled for camlock, camlocks not locking, drawers falling out, gliders falling out including all those little silver balls inside, and chain breaking. Plus the filing drawers are really shallow. I have put a lot of furniture together over the years, but these ones were some of the worst. I am now trying to return products or sell them for less than I paid in order to buy something else. Look nice, but I really wish I hadn't purchased them."

I had the same problem assembling the file cabinet. The camlocks wouldn't lock, and the top won't stay on. Can't get the drawers in properly either, which is a problem I also had with the secretary. I gave up ages ago, and still have the partially assembled file cabinet sitting in a closet because I wasn't smart enough to return it. I've purchased a lot of items from Home Decorators and, after this item, decided I would have to seriously consider ever purchasing assembly required furniture from them again.

"It took me several hours to put this file cabinet together, but it was worth it. (I did end up with an extra piece of wood...) It's very well-made and a good value for the price. Lots of packaging to get rid of, but all of the pieces were in tact and there were no scratches or damage to any of the parts."

"Items arrived with a few minor scuffs, but they will be easy to fix. Assembly took about 2 hours, working by myself. One reviewer commented about all the foam packing debris - I suggest you assemble this thing in the garage and vacuum it well before moving it into your house. It went together easily, although you have to maintain a light touch on the screwdriver to avoid stripping out the holes. The drawers close a little stiff, but that should improve with time. Overall, it looks nice, works well (although the drawers ARE a little shallow), and should last a long, long time."

"Packaging: Low grade (cheap) Styrofoam was used for packing. When I opened the box, little round balls of Styrofoam flew everywhere. I had to vacuum and clean every piece. Since Styrofoam creates static electricity, clean up was more difficult.
Assembly: It took my wife and me 3½ hours to assembly the cabinet. Many screws stripped out. Assembling the drawers was difficult. It took an additional ½ hour to get the drawers in on the glides so that the drawers would shut correctly.
Usage: When the drawers were assembled, much to my dismay I discovered that the filing configuration was not front to end, but side to side making the number of files in a drawer very limited. The configuration was also for letter or legal. If letter files are used, the wasted space to their side is open and every time the drawer is shut, documents in the files slide toward the back. In addition, the cabinet doors would not shut due to the plastic file tabs that I use (the drawer is not deep enough) and I did not to particularly want to go the expense and time to change the file tabs that were going to be filed in this cabinet. Rather than dismantle the cabinet which had been glued in places, I reconfigured my other filing cabinets and I now use this one for storage of bulkier items.
Conclusion: Once assembled, the cabinet looks nice, but overall a disappointment and a waste of money."

"Box was dirty and banged up. File cabinet will not last long. Heavy, and several nicks and scratches on finish. Wanted to return the item, but would have had to find a box, then take to UPS. The cabinet weighs about 50 pounds. We were credited twice. Once for item not being assembled and then again for the scratches and dents. I would much rather pay a little more and receive better quality."
