Looks Good, But Not Worth The Money

"I was so excited to have found what I thought was the perfect piece. It arrived in a timely manner, and I couldn't wait to have up and in place. Unfortunately, the hardware is not substantial enough to hold this bookcase together. It was standing one minute, and in a pile the next! The anchors pulled out, and the "glue" provided did not hold the dowels in place either. After gluing (with carpenter's glue) each screw and dowel,and letting it dry for 24 hrs. it still feels like it's going to collaspe! If I could pack it up and send it back I would...Do not waste your money. This is the first piece I have purchased from Home Decorators that was sub-par."

"The sides of this bookshelf are what make it stand out. The wood detail is pretty, but it's not real wood. This MDF is full of stinky fumes even after 3 days of airing out. Directions to build were inaccurate. It's a bummer when thing go bad before you even have your new shelf built. One of the pieces cracked by slight over-tightening. I don't think this is a shelf that will last. I give is maybe 1 or 2 years tops before it breaks down. I wouldn't put anything heavy on this for sure, otherwise the shelves will bow."

"I had been eyeing this bookcase for quite some time and bought it on sale. Delivery was prompt and everything arrived intact. Assembly took a couple hours, going at a leisurely pace. Two things to watch out for: 1) when you glue/insert the dowels, don't use too much glue, and insert them into the deeper/sturdier of the two sides you are connecting. 2) work in a well-ventilated area and leave the bookcase to air out for a couple days -- it smelled awful. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and plan to try more pieces from the Knot Collection."

difficult assembly - item is now damaged

"This item was difficult to assemble and I have assembled many pieces of furniture in the past. The pieces kept falling over and not staying together so the shelves ended up dented and in one section a chunk of the wood broke out. The pieces have white plastic cam pieces that are pre installed - but when the shelves fell over the plastic pieces ripped out and i had to glue them back in. In the end i realized the problem was that the directions were stapled together IN THE WRONG ORDER! Still the plastic cams should not have ripped out. Now that it is assembled it looks ok."

"The unit is attractive; and assembly was fairly simple, but there was a stage when it seemed the sides and 2 fixed shelves should have been stable and they were not -- they only became stable when the assembly was actually complete. This was nerve-wracking and troubling. I was relieved when I put the final pieces together and stability was achieved. The appearance and functionality of the piece, in the end, is as expected. It is not fine furniture, but we know that. If you are OK with the typical mail-order self-assembly furniture, it is high quality within that category."

"This bookshelf looks great and holds lots of books. It was not too difficult to put together, and to appears very sturdy with all the shelves in. There are three shelves that have an adjustable height. The directions are clear and everything was ready to simply put together. There are two brackets to mount the top of the bookshelf to the wall, but right now we are not using them."
