A Disappointment
Date:March 2, 2012
"This was almost the only completely neutral rug I could find that still had a design element for visual interest. While the rug is on the low end of the price range for most of HDC's rugs, it was still rather expensive because I needed a large rug. I didn't want to spend this much, but I really thought I would love this rug. However, it has several issues. First, the one I received had four rows of small holes in the pile along one whole edge. It looks as if, when they were making the rug, that end was attached to some sort of spiked, metal strip to hold it in place. I have tried rubbing that area to try to smooth the fibers out and remove the appearance of the holes, but they are still there and quite noticeable. Next, the rug is very wrinkled. And this is odd because is arrived in a nice tight roll, so it shouldn't have any wrinkles at all. It is a large rug. I can't set something heavy on the whole thing to try to smooth it out, so I don't think the wrinkles will ever come out. Also, because it is so thin, it sort of buckles up around things like table legs, even though I have a very thick rug pad under it. Some fibers have started coming out of the rug--this is not fuzz, which would be expected, but whole, V-shaped fibers that have just come out of the backing. There are also black flecks in the rug at random places. These look a little like cigarette ashes were flicked onto the rug. The design element is not what I expected from the picture. I thought it would look more like a natural sprig of some plant. But the "leaves" are very stylized and modern. They are made up of horizontal lines spaced about a centimeter apart. They also almost look like they were printed onto the rug, although I think they are actually woven. Finally, the label on the rug says that the rug was made with chrome dyes and that it may damage the floor if used without the proper pad. This concerns me because there is always about an inch around the edge of a rug that lies directly on the floor. This is necessary so that the pad is not visible. So does that mean that the dyes may cause damage in my wood floor in a 1-inch strip all the way around the rug? Sadly, this rug won't work for me. I'm returning it."
