"Great piece. Bought this item for my wife for her birthday (she's been looking at this piece for months). Great price as we purchased for half price. Item ships in two boxes which arrived within the specified time. Assembly was easy and straight forward although I have assembled similar pieces. Total assembly time was about 3 hours but mostly because my 3 year old was 'helping'. Would have taken maybe only 2 hours under normal circumstances."

"very nice only complaint is that it comes in 2 boxes and they were shipped on different days and were received 4 days apart, need to be shipped together"

"I had a little difficultly putting this together. It does take 2 people at times. If they had better pictures of the actual pieces it would help. I do love this piece of furniture. Looks great in my foyer."

Great looking product but difficult assembly

"This is a great looking product... once its assembled. I've constructed dozens of pieces of furniture over the years from desks to cabinets to media centers. This was the hardest. Took me over 2 hours. Although its pretty straight forward. The bolts never align easily and its really hard to fasten the bolts.
now that its put together I can enjoy it and I'll get over the trauma of the assembly."

"Took about 4 hours to put together plus 2 glasses of wine. I really like the finished look and finish color but sure wish they could build stuff from real solid lumber and not pressboard. Sure hope it holds up. The only negative is that the seat is not exactly centered, but still looks OK."

IT IS PARTICLE BOARD!!!!

"No where on here does it say it is particle board, but 95% of it is. I would no have bought it had I known. And returning it would mean disassembling. It looks pretty good, but easy to strip lock bolt at base of seat. Came right through the particle board. To add insult to injury, there are SILVER lock bolts that show on the wood and they give you little FELT CIRCLES to cover them. Atrocious! I bought wood putty. At least that is a little better."

"While assembling the first few parts, the screws pulled out of the wood with very little effort. Turns out the screws are actually screwed into plastic plugs held in place by friction. Not sturdy enough for sitting on in my opinion. I reinforced the seat portion with hidden L-brackets inside and underneath the trunk. Looks great in our entryway and we feel safe sitting on it now too."

Darker wood than I expected

"Thinking the light oak would be too light, I ordered the McIntosh Oak. It was darker than I would have preferred, but rather than go through the bother of returning it (it's a very heavy piece that arrives in two boxes) I decided to keep it. Other than that, it's a very attractive, functional piece that totally solves my problem of all of those jackets, ball caps, dog leashes, etc. that accumulate at the front door and drive me crazy! And now I always know where I left my purse/keys, too! The assembly was not difficult but did take my husband and I over two hours - definitely not a project I could have completed alone given the weight (and number) of pieces."

"I posted a negative review of this product a couple of weeks ago because there weren't any assembly instructions delivered or available online for it.
Two weeks later, they finally posted the PDFs, but subsequently removed my negative review and my account completely. I
I had to completely sign up again in order to post this review. I am almost certain that it and my account will be removed soon.
Apparently the Home Decorator's Club feels that it's really difficult to admit when a mistake is made.. I'm satisfied with this product, but it's questionable if you will ever read this review due to the way this site is managed. They like to delete reviews which aren't favorable to them.
We'll see how long this honest review is available."

"I like the hall tree, its size makes it versatile but the wood is too red for my taste. Also the style is too arts & crafts - I prefer more traditional. Attached a carved wood horse head for decoration and it looks great!"

"I love how this piece looks in my house and it's made of solid wood so it's very sturdy. Assembly was easy enough, but pay close attention to the directions regarding which holes to use for what - I glued a dowel into the wrong hole and had to get creative to pull it out since I didn't realize until after it dried. Customer service was great as well, they were very helpful when I had a problem with one of the parts and offered to send a replacement right away."
