"I bought this shelf to go above the matching Martha Stewart bench. I went with the smaller shelf so that spans 1/2 of the large bench and it looks great. I have not had the trouble some people mentioned in their reviews regarding the pegs coming loose. My spouse put the shelf together with ease but it definitely would have taken me longer. Really beautiful and functional. We did place surface protectors on the backside of the bottom of the shelf to make it hang more evenly. So far I am extremely pleased with this purchase."

"looks nice, sturdy. The cleat in the back works but the design is not perfect. It makes the shelf lean forward a little, so I will be taking it off and screwing the shelf into the studs myself. Otherwise the shelf is very square and level."

"We received this shelf and put it together right away. There was a piece of the paint/veneer that broke off right away but I glued it back on because I was excited to have it. After we got it assembled I noticed that there were stickers that needed to be peeled off on the bottom of the shelf which were very noticeable and hard to peel off so it left a sticky residue. Then when we went to put the pegs on and we noticed that the screws are very short and only go about a 1/4 of an inch into the peg so they cannot withstand any amount of weight with out breaking off. I bought the long shelf hoping to have lots of storage in my entry way for my 3 children's coats and back packs but unless I replace all of the pegs with more sturdy hooks I don't see us getting to utilize it as I had hoped. I bought the bench and shelf unit and they do look the same as their picture but I am disappointed in the quality."

"This Martha Stewart Living shelf looks great in my entry way over the matching bench. I am pleased with the quality and appearance of this shelf with hook. So nice to have a place for guests to hang their coats and hats. I'm happy about the ease of assembly and mounting, also."

Weak Pegs

"We purchased the single shelf and matching bench. It looks great... until you notice that one of the pegs has fallen off and three others are sagging. We can no longer hang anything on it, which completely defeats the purpose. My husband is going to have to take it down and try and find a way to re-attach the pegs more securely. So disappointed!"

Loose Pegs

"I ordered the shelf and the coordinating storage bench with storage bins. Everything looked exactly like the pictures. The only problem that I have is that the pegs for hanging things came out within a week or so. If you hang only a lightweight jacket or a leash, I guess that's fine but not realistic. I need to hold backpacks and purses. My husband had to go back and wood glue all of the pegs. Now they are still coming out, and he is going to place his own screws in them to make them hold. Not something I expect to have to do from this company."

"Again, top notch quality with excellent solid wood construction. This is a substantial piece. However, as it's designed to hang on the wall, the weight of the piece is a drawback in this circumstance. Approach this the way that you would installing a new wall mount tv or cabinetry and make sure that you're well supported on installation to prevent injury. Add to that the weight of the piece is not the only thing it will be supporting - any coats or items hung on it or items placed on the shelf will add to the weight as well. You're easily talking 100lbs. I do not think the sheet metal attachment for the wall is sufficient over a long period of time for this much weight, and we will probably be modifying this to make it safer. Note that I do not think it is *unsafe* - it is currently hanging in its unmodified state and seems to be doing well. Assembly was easy. The only problem with this piece was the wooden caps for the top shelf are much smaller than the actual holes and do not work at all (they just fall in). Given how high it is placed, and that I paid a reduced price, I am still very happy with this item."

poor design. purchased antique hooks to attach instead, but the back panel crumbled when wood screws were anchored. Wish I could return it.

Not only was the coat rack poorly made, but the packaging was missing both the hooks and the metal device to hang the rack. Two of the screws stripped the holes so they are not secure and one of the hooks also was stripped, so I attached it with super glue. Not what I expected from Martha Stewart or Home Decorators. I won't buy from them again.

"We got this shelf to hang above the bench in our foyer. Despite a little trouble with assembly (the guide provided for drilling holes in the wall resulted in some slightly off-center holes), we really like this piece. It looks nice and seems sturdy."

"Overall very nice. However, two of the hanging pegs came apart during installation and had to be replaced. (Customer service was very good and sent replacements quickly.) Also the plugs for the screw holes were too small and fell into the holes. Since they are on top you can't see them so it isn't a big deal"

"I was pleased with the overall quality of this Martha Stewart shelf, but one of the pegs was bored incorrectly, making it impossible to attach with the hardware included. I was able to substitute a larger screw and some wood putty to fix the merchandise, but a more careful pre-shipping inspection would have made this repair unnecessary. On the positive side, the color is just as shown on site, the quality of the wood is good, and the shelf is quite sturdily manufactured. Also, shipping was prompt, and the product was well-packaged."
