"One side of the bookcase's pilot holes for the screws were not an equal distance as the other side, so it made it difficult to line things up and square the bookcase. It was accomplished, but in the process the wood cracked next to one of the holes. We've filled the shelves and it hasn't collapsed, hopefully it will last."

"I have purchased several bookcases from Home Decorators for my various clients and all of them have exceeded my expectations.
The Brexley is sturdy and has a very nice side detail. I purchased two of them for a double bookcase look. My client loves it.
My client wanted to assemble the bookcases and commented that although it was not hard to put together, it did take some time....."

"beautifull piece of furniture, however, i would never have been able to assemble it myself. instructions were fine, but as a 70 year woman i would not have been able to put it together. thanks God for my son."

"This is a really nice bookcase. It matches very well with the wood and craftmanship of my very expensive desk! It was pretty easy to put together, but you do need 2 people on the last step because you won't have enough hands! Love this bookcase....think I'll buy a second one!"

"I got two of these tall shelves and one shorter one. The smaller one came in first. My husband put in together (from reviews I knew people had complained about assembly and smell), my husband put it together without much trouble even though he had to make a few adjustments. It had a strong smell of formaldehyde, which lasted for days. The larger shelves arrived two days later, we have a baby in the house so I opened the boxes and let the shelves air out for 5 days in a room we don't use, the smell was unbearable when you walked into that room. When my husband went to put together the first shelf there were several problems. One being that one of the wood braces for the back was cracked and crooked. When he tried to straighten it, it completely broke in half. I know that I could of sent it back and got I new one but my husband is very handy and I just told him to fix it. After he was finished and it was all put togeter I noticed that when the shelf was stained someone put their hand in it, so there is no stain in that area and some of the shelves are chipped. The second one had no issues. I think we just got a dud with the one. They look great together and with books on them and we colored in the areas that were chipped and had no stain. Overall for the price they're great. The problem is if you are not handy and you have these same issues it will be a much bigger ordeal for you."

"Product delivered in timely fashion
Ordered two bookcases and both were damaged - not enough to return but warrented some repair
One bokcase was difficult to put together as holes did not match up
The positive side however, once put together, repairs made and cases put into position they look good."

"Purchased this bookshelf because we loved the look of it and our space was smallish. When we opened it up, it was packaged well. It doesn't fit together snuggly. There are sections that we painted to hide the dowels showing.
It does smell like formaldehyde. After about a week it isn't so strong but we both had headaches after putting this together."

"Shelving veneer looks good; warm dark chestnut color. Easy to assemble. Best to have a helper for attaching the last side as you need to match up all of the dowels and camlock screws. Looks good; wish they made a taller one. I switched out a standard and bracket adjustable wall shelf system for these; all of our books look much nicer, but the units don't hold as much. Bought 3 on line and 3 short ones at local Home Depot. There's roughly 12" between shelves."

"Bookcase is very easy to assemble, instructions are clear. Need your own screwdriver; the one in the box is a little difficult to manipulate.
Only issue was delivery, but this was the carrier's fault, not Home Decorators. (UPS indicated they delivered the package to my apartment unit onmy day off, but I never received a package. I called UPS and Home Decorators immediately after receiving the notification; HD's was excellent in their handling of the mishap. They immediately put in an order for a replacement shipment at no additional charge or inconveenience to me.)"

"I had been looking for a long bookcase with at least five shelves on it, hoping for an open industrial look. Unfortunately, anything that looked great cost an arm and a leg. I found the Brexley and decided on purchasing two to go side by side, and the price was great.
We got the boxes and began unpacking and noticed that a few of the pieces were cracked, the wood was split in a few locations. I immediately called the number for home decorators on the instruction manual and got no answer, four times.
We decided to go ahead on putting it together anyway because the splits were on side or back pieces and would not be visible.
The installation was easy once you got a handle on all the different parts, I would suggest using your own screwdriver.
All in all for the price they were a good purchase, they hold all my books, dvds and knick-knacks just as intended."

"We are very happy with this bookcase. We bought two of them to go on either side of a case opening. They match our decor and fit the spaces perfectly. I was surprised by how sturdy they seem, given the price. It was not very difficult for my husband to assemble them with a screw gun."

"I bought 2 of these for my son's new apartment. They were a royal pain to assemble, thanks to a blister-raising odd little assembly tool. (I kicked myself for not bringing along my power tools!) For once, all of the pieces were actually there, however, and nothing arrived with damage. I was pleasantly surprised.
Once assembled, the bookcases look fantastic. They are exactly what he wanted, and they're sturdy enough to hold all of his "stuff". They really suit his rather modern apartment, and he's very pleased with them."

"Great buy for the price. I ordered 2 and they were delivered with in 2 weeks. Easy to install if you have put together furniture like this in the past if not it may take some paitence. My Suggestion would be to use a folding table or large table to put the book shelf together and make sure you have a screw gun."

"I have an extensive library so I ordered 3 of these bookcases. I wanted bookcases that are open on the ends so that they would look "lighter" in my small room. The crossed pieces between each shelf on each end fit my requirement perfectly. All pieces are solid wood and the workmanship is excellent. These are beautiful bookcases and I couldn't be happier!"
