For something that bills itself as media storage..

"Bought the set on sale where you get two of them plus a mantle top otherwise sold separately. Putting the two towers together, the plugs didn't line up properly to the holes so can't get last plug all the way in. Same with putting the mantle top on the top unit--one plug pulled out of the base, different hole the wood veneer around it cracked while trying to maneuver it to line up together.
However, the bigger issue is, if this is supposedly "media storage" and the ad for my set explicitly said holds DVDs, the shelf size barely fits single DVDs stood upright, most boxed sets barely fit--very snug, starts scuffing up the cardboard putting them in--and doesn't fit some boxed sets at all unless you put it on the larger shelf that comes from putting two units together.
And the biggest insult? With the mantle top on, the top shelf doesn't fit DVDs at all, not even singles. How tacky is that, having to have the DVDs on the top shelf of my DVD storage laying sideways just so they'll fit. Contemplating taking off the mantle top completely."

"Love these shelves. They are packed well, so there is no damage. There are no parts other than the feet that you put on with a rubber mallet if needed. They just lift out and unfold. They are low profile, so easy to fit in spaces that you don't want to loose alot of room to storage in. The only negative thing I have to say is that the finish is rough in some places. But it does not affect the appearance...you can feel it when you dust them."

"I like the finish and ease of assembly. The back rail screw holes should be covered on the sides. There should be a spacer made available when the mantel piece is used. The top shelf will not hold DVD boxes standing up like the other 3 shelves with the mantel installed. Beware, the mantel finish will not match the unit, but doesn't look bad. Serves its purpose and looks better than something from Walmar,t."

"I am inept at handylady stuff and therefore hate to assemble things. I needed a small bookcase to put photos and "stuff" on and this is the perfect piece. The wood, even if it's a veneer or whatever it is, looks really nice and all you do is unfold it and voila....you have a great little bookcase. I had a teeny bit of trouble getting the optional top "mantle" on but no big deal. I like it so much that I ordered a twin for it!"

"This is a very sturdily built folding bookcase, I was surprised at its weight and beautiful finish for the price. You'll probably want the mantle top as it does look incomplete without it. Watch out for color! I should have heeded other reviews on that; my bookcase - oak - is almost orange. Would like to see this as an unfinished item so buyers could paint it their color of choice. Ridiculously easy to "assemble" - take out of box, put on the feet, fold down the shelves - voila! Line up feet and mantle top holes with the pegs and use rubber mallet to pound in (gently!)."

"I am delighted with the folding/stacking media units that I purchased. They are very well made and are beautifully finished.
I was looking for something that I could handle by myself. It was "exactly" what I needed.
Everything is assembled for you .......now how easy is that? All I had to do was pop on the feet. I also purchased the Mantel top that easily fit in place.
I actually needed shelves to sit on a ledge in my reading room. The shelves are so sturdy that I didn't even have to attach them to the wall.
I needed "help" achieving this book shelf look and these folding shelves were perfect."

"Bought to replace a 30"w x 12"d x72"h dark mahogany bookcase used for media and paperbacks which was overwhelming my bedroom.
Arrived promptly, in good condition and set up easily - a boon for an 80 year-0ld with arthritis. Handles items well plus gains 5" more aisle space and opens up the room by removing a looming dark presence."

"We ordered six products in this group for our family room with the idea that they would blend in with other oak bookcases we had. Products seem to be well made especially for the price and the design and sizes of the pieces were just what we needed. However, the color of the finish of all pieces was VERY red. the finish was more red than our cherry cabinets in the kitchen. The finish was definitely not a honey oak color as described and did not blend in with our other bookcases at all. After I sent pictures to HDC, they took our whole order back without any hassle at all."

"For the mechanically challenged, elderly or small muscled this item is a godsend! What a joy to just unfold the sides and slide in the shelves. This is my second set, and I will keep ordering them as I add books to my collection. They are super sturdy and they look good to boot."

"This piece is a nice quality and very sturdy. The Honey Oak color wasn't what appears online or in the catalog and looks more like a reddish/cherry color. Customer service was very helpful in returning and exchanging so that I was completely satisfied. The natural oak is a very neutral color. Note variations of wood grain more noticeable. Overall I am happy with the purchase."
