A wonderful set for display/storage of DVDs & CDs

"This entire media shelf--two 4-shelf units and the mantel top--looks terrific once assembled, and I enjoy having it in my home theatre, where it holds DVDs, Blu-Rays, and even some CDs. My sole complaint is that the mantel top can be difficult to attach firmly to the top of the upper shelf unit. In fact, I had to stand the entire shelf unit on its head for a couple of days to get the holes and pegs to mate up well. (That did the trick!) I think wooden dowels and glue would be preferable to the plastic pegs supplied with this item."

"I bought twobookcase and thought I was buying the appropriate top. Both tops did not fit the bookcases Why wouldn't you pair the top with the appropriate bookcase so people would not make a mistake? It would cost more to return the two than it is worth, and apparently HD is no longer even selling the correct top. This is the last purchase I make from you"

Too Small To Use and Too Big to Return

"This "bookcase" is too small for books. While the mantel fits the case it's also too small to hold books.
The shipping cost to return these items is almost as much as the original purchase price so that's not an option.
Since these will undoubtedly fits someone's needs, I donated them to the Salvation Army."

"I feel that I paid for the hardwood, and could have finished the part myself. I seen the same comment from another review that the mantel top didn't match the quality of the finish of the media 'bookcase', I hoped for better. So it doesn't deserve more than 2 stars. My 'yes' to the recommendation is more to say that it's better than nothing. But if you have the time and equipment, do it yourself."

"I needed an extra mantel top because a bought the stacker unit at a good price but didn't want to stack them. The finich on this mantel top was much better than the finish on the one that came with the double unit. Have a rubber mallet handy to save your hand in getting it on, it is a tight fit. It's overpriced if not on sale but there is no option if you need to do what I did. Beware of delayed shipping as this site will not warn you before you have already ordered and paid."

"No assembly, as the bookcase shelves just fold down, and then this mantel top fits on the top bookcase with provided pegs. The three pieces (two bookcases and mantel top) were light and easy to get up the narrow stairs of an old farmhouse. But we did attach it to the wall for safety. Looks nice. Holds a lot."

"The mantle is solid and matches the bookcases perfectly. However, if you use the mantle top on your bookcase, DVDs will no longer fit, in a vertical position, on the top shelf."

"I really, really love this media cabinet. It's solid and looks expensive (I ordered the pecan finish). I like how the shelves fold up and down for easy moving or storing. My daughter wants it for the hallway in her small apartment so I'll be buying another one. The price is very good. I haven't found a similar cabinet for this good of a price. 1st time buying on this website but plan to be a repeating customer now."

"Although I am using this media shelving unit in my closet (the shallow shelving is perfect for the wall of my walk-in, for scarves, shawls and t-shirts), it's pretty enough to live in my living room (although would be nice if it came with those little round wooden buttons to cover the recesses where brass bolt-heads can be seen). In addition to the intended use (media - videos & cd's), the shelf size is perfect for smaller books, photos or other display items.
Assembly is about as easy as making toast.

"This top gives the shelves a much richer look. Looks nice with our other bookcases and mission style furniture.
There can be some pretty wide variations in the markings and coloration of the wood on these products (rubberwood?). Luckily the top matched very well with our shelves even being shipped separately.
Can be a bit of a challenge getting the top on if your shelves are not perfectly square and level (a given even with shims in our 100+ year old house. Definitely recommend a nice, rubber mallet to make sure the top seats correctly."
