"My wife and I love the shelves. They are far and away better than a standard DVD rack simply because it places them behind glass doors. (This will help prevent dust accumulation.)
Some Caveats:
These cases do *NOT* hold 500+ DVDs as someone elses review states.
You get roughly 30 DVDs per shelf half. 33 if you are willing to cram them in and miss viewing the 3 closest to center. (this is a mix of sleeveless DVD cases and sleeved dvd cases) With no modifications, you have 5 usable rows or 10 shelf halves resulting in roughly 300 DVDs per case.
If you modify the case, you can add a whole extra row, giving you an additional 2 shelf halves resulting in 360 DVDs per case.
The doors DO close all the way, however, you will need to adjust the bumpers in the upper tracks. They have included bumpers on both sides of both tracks. This allows you to pick and choose which way you want your doors to be. Loosen the screw for the bumper and slide it against the side the door will close on if you want it to close flush. Leave the opposite side in to prevent the door from slamming open.
If you wish to modify your case, You will need:
A drill
A 7/32 drill bit
A couple of C clamps
Measuring tape or ruler
Packing material (cardboard)
Painters tape
Black Sharpie
Work space
First, take the center column as your guide. Put one long piece of painter's tape on each side of the shelf peg holes. It should look like this:
|x|o|x| |x|o|x|
|x|o|x| |x|o|x|
|x|o|x| |x|o|x|
|x|o|x| |x|o|x|
|x|o|x| |x|o|x|
|x|o|x| |x|o|x|
( |x| is a strip of tape and o is the shelf peg hole)
What you've done is created a centering guide for your new holes. Currently, the holes are drilled in sets of 6. 2 across and 3 up. There is a roughly 3 inchgap between these sets. The holes are currently predrilled with a 1 inch distance between. The gap does not allow you to drill two additional holes at the same distances the predrilled holes are done at.
You will want to place your measuring tape or ruler with an inch mark on the very edge of the peg hole that starts a gap. You will drill your holes with the 7/32 drill bit in this 3 inch gap using each inch mark as the center line for your new hole. I would suggest when drilling the center column, you have a piece of scrap wood under it because you will be drilling all the way through the center column. This will help prevent chipping the veneer as the drill bit exits the other side and prevent you from destroying a nice dining table. Make sure to drill SLOW. If the bit plunges through the other side of the column, it will chip the veneer. Let the bit do the work.
Did you chip the veneer? Good thing you brought the black sharpie. I used the sharpie to touch up minor scuffs from the drill's collar as well as chipped veneer. It disappears into the case completely when assembled so don't fret. Don't sharpie anything till you're done drilling all the pieces though. And make sure to wipe down all of the veneer before you color in the chips/scuffs/marks.
Once you have drilled all of the gaps in the center column, stand it up and tap all the wood dust off and out of the holes. this will become your template for the sides.
Grab a side panel, and make sure to align the center comlumn with it in the manner it would be when you assemble the case. In other words, following the pictures in the instruction booklet, the cam locks would face to the right if you look a it dead on. So using the left side, the cam locks will not face each other. Using the right side, the cam locks WILL face each other.
Make once you've oriented the two pieces, clamp them together loosely. Place cardboard between the clamp and the wood on both sides to prevent messing up the veneer. I used 2x thickness of cardboard per side. Plunge the drill bit without the drill through a pre-drilled hole in the bottom. Make sure it goes through the center and into the side piece. Now, take your painters tape and wrap the exposed part of drill bit, leaving enough for the drill to grab the bit. If you wrap enough, the tape will act as a buffer and prevent the bit from going all the way through the side piece.
Once aligned on the bottom tighten the clamp. Re do this on the top and tighten the clamp up there. Now that the whole thing is aligned, drill through your new holes in the center column and into the side column, taking care not to go past your tape, or if you made your tape really thick, not to press down on the tape too much or at all.
Repeat for the other column.
This will allow a 6th row of shelves for DVDs and even more variability if you have other stuff.
Hope this helped..."

Media Tower
Date:September 7, 2011
"This is a very good media tower. Fairly easy to assemble. The tower looks great and the doors slide easily.
My husband complains that there aren't enough holes in the sides to adjust the shelves. He is storing DVD cases and Jewel cases in it and combining the two makes the lack of holes problematic. If you are doing just one or the other I believe it wouldn't be an issue.
One thing they do not mention is that this comes in two packages. We were not aware of this and were confused when we got two different tracking numbers. It was also annoying that they came on two different days so I could not assemble it until the second package arrived. I did not realize this until I had it all unpacked and spread out all over the floor.
Other than those issues, I would highly recommend this product. I don't like spending a lot money on one purchase, bu this was worth it.

Excellent value
Date:December 31, 2010
"The cabinet is quite elegant for CDrom and DVD storage. It looks like a designer piece compared to other pieces available for this purpose. The primary use for mine is DVD storage (Blu-ray, standard DVD, PS3 games) which removes the use of 4 shelves in total. That doesn't take away from the product appearance or usefulness. It is fairly easy to assemble and works great with 2 people...took about an hour. The only downside to this unit compared to my other unit (without doors) is the access to the center 3-4 DVD's per side. I just put my lesser viewed DVD's in the center sections on either side. Overall an A+ product!!"

Beautiful Cabinet - Multiple Uses!
Posted March 19, 2013
This is a beautiful, rich looking cabinet. Heavy glass doors, sturdy and well made. I use it in my dining room to store crystal and china. Wine glasses, champagne flutes, and other barware fit very nicely and it looks great! I plan on buying another one for the same purpose. It was easy to assemble. I used wood glue to make it even more sturdy, however, you probably don't need it. LOVE IT!!

Elegant and a Fairly Price
Date:July 31, 2010
"Was pleasantly surprised that it was puntunctually delivered, packed well with no damage, easy to follow instructions, and fairly easy to assemble with 2 sets of hands. Looks much better than several I looked at in furniture stores that were more expensive. Just what I needed for a specific area.
Thanks....... again.

Great value
Date:July 29, 2010
"I chose this CD rack because it has glass doors, was black wood, and can hold 1000 cd's. It looks great, but the glass doors do not close completely. I'm not sure if this is an issue with how we put it together or not. Instructions were hard to decipher at times. The other issue is that you cannot fully load up each shelf because of the sliding doors. You would not be able to reach the ones in the middle. This is OK for now because we only have about 800 CD's. Other than these 2 issues, I am very satisfied with the purchase!"

Love it except I wish it held more DVDs
Date:July 17, 2010
"We bought this cabinet to hold our DVD collection of 500+. Before I bought it I asked on the chat how many DVDs it would hold and they said 675 so I thought it would be great because there would be room for growth. But we had trouble fitting our existing DVDs in the cabinet. You could fit more if the shelves could be spaced differently. We cleaned out DVDs and ended up with 456, and we have room for about 30-40 more. I figure the cabinet holds around 500 DVDs, half the number of CDs.
We don't put these kinds of things together often so it took us a lot longer than most of the other reviewers but it wasn't that difficult."

Nice cabinet for our cds, dvds
Date:March 5, 2010
"Easy to put together. I did it by myself in less than an hour. The color was a bit lighter than I had thought based on the website photo. It holds most of our (growing) cd and dvd collection nicely. The only drawback is the metal handles on the glass doors. They have very sharp edges so when you grab them to open one side or another, you have be careful not to do so too tightly. That's a manufacturing flaw they should work on. Otherwise, we're enjoying the cabinet!"

Classy!
Date:February 24, 2010
"This media cabinet looks very classy and beautiful in our home. We placed it beneath our wall-mounted TV and it fit perfectly. It was easy to assemble, and holds all of our videos, DVDs, and CDs. We have our Satellite box and Blue-ray player on top of the cabinet. The glass doors keep any dust off of the shelves and media. I believe this would also be a terrific shelf for paperbacks or small books of that sort, as the shelves are narrow for the size of DVDs and videos. The top two shelves ended up being rather small, but CDs can lay on their sides or remotes could be kept on the very top shelves. We did not use all of the shelves or plastic pegs that came with the unit, but there are adjustable peg holes where these can be used. The plastic pegs concerned me at first, but the unit seems sturdy enough for our use. I shopped around to compare quality, price, and shipping. I found the best price for the quality here. Overall, this was a wonderful purchase!"

Very Attractive Media Cabinet
Date:February 17, 2010
"This cabinet arrived flat packed in 2 separate shipments (a day apart). My husband was able to put it together on his lunch break so it was very straight forward, despite the somewhat poorly translated instructions. The backing on the cabinet is visibly cheap but when the entire product was put together it looked very sleek and expensive and is a wonderful addition to our living room.
We purchased this cabinet specifically for the storage of our DVD/blu-ray/X-Box games, so the only major con is that the peg holes for the shelves are too close together to really maximize the storage of DVD's/blu-ray/game discs. There is a lot of wasted space above the DVD's due to this. The peg holes need to be about 1/4" further apart and you'd be able to nearly double the amount of storage space for DVD's.
Overall we're pleased with our purchase and are confident that we will have this piece for many years to come."
