"I was very disappointed in this bookcase, I have assembled 5 bookcases in my home over the past few yrs and this one, not only was missing pg 2 of instructions, it had to be taken apart 2X's in order to make the top slide on. Apart from that the materials used were poor quality, the inside of bookcase was flat pressboard without a wood finish. The exterior has a rough finish, unlike the picture on line. Was NOT worth the money."

Not as it appeared
Date:February 23, 2013
"Just assembled the "honey oak" model. Assembly was easy, quick. Overall quality is good - much better than particle board. However, don't think that you are getting oak veneer or even oak-like. The color is much redder than I would have expected for a honey oak color and, although the picture on the web makes the grain appear to be large and open, like oak, the actual wood is your typical imported appearance. I was hoping to match some existing oak finish in the room. Fortunately, the bookcase will be far enough from it, and in a corner where it won't be so obvious. Still, a good value for the money. Would be nice if you could request a small sample of the actual wood with the finish on it, before purchase."

looked good until the last step
Date:February 14, 2013
"I needed a bookcase exactly this size, so I pulled the trigger and bought it. Made of solid wood, not particle board, a nice surprise. Finish looks pretty nice too. I got all the way to the last step when I noticed that there is about a 3/4 inch gap between the base molding and the bottom shelf...a THREE QUARTER INCH GAP!!! that turned an easy 4/5 star buy into a very disappointing 2 star...so much potential, right up to the end. No, I know what you are thinking...I assembled it incorrectly...nope, double checked it, did it right. In fact, the assembly was quite simple and straightforward."

"Construction was fairly straight forward...though I did have to backtrack a couple times due to a lack of detail. The final product is very good quality. It looks good. Build time was short...under an hour. Much better than flimsy particle board bookcases."

Unstable

"I was disappointed with this bookcase from the moment I opened the box. The wood has a "plastic" look and feel. The directions were poorly written and the overall construction is quite unstable. I will need to add braces to the back to make it square and keep the sides from buckling.
If it hadn't been so heavy, I would have returned it.
By the way, check to make sure all the parts and hardware are in the box before starting to assemble. Several of mine were missing and I had to wait 2 weeks to get everything I needed."

"The bookcase looks nice when all is said and done, but I was disappointed to find that one of the factory installed screws in the base was missing which led to the bottom of the base seperating from the unit and it looked terrible. I was able to use some wood glue and my own hardware to fix it, but was again disappointed in the product that was sent to me. I should have built my own bookcase for a heck of a lot cheaper."

Iffy product construction

"upon beginning assembly and attaching the small boards to the right side of the bookcase, the metal inserts pulled out of the wood and we found that we had to be careful in how we tightened the rest of the screws in the rest of them. The manufacturer needs to assess their installation procedures."

Not up to the quality of other furniture I bought
Date:December 18, 2012
"this bookcase looked good on the computer and from previous purchases I expected Home Decorrators quality. The staining was very uneven and a number of dings and dents were evident. I asked my wife if she wanted to return, but she said no - we would never have been able to get it back in the box it shipped in. We had to do quite a bit of touch up with a stain marker. Overall it's ok but I won't buy another Hamilton product."

Sturdy and good looking bookcase
Date:December 13, 2012
"I actually hired someone to assemble this bookcase and he did it within an hour. It's terrific because it's all hardwood, 38" wide, 6' tall with 6 shelves. It hold many books. I've pleased and have received many compliments. I recommend it without reservations."

HAMILTON BOOKCASE

"Packaging seemed very good to protect material from shipping damage, though there was a small indentation on the very top front sill. Product is well constructed of solid wood, no particle board. Assembly is rather simple, but you have no clue as to what tools you will need for assembly and some of the assembly instructions are a guess. Shelves are of solid wood and should not sag over time. For the price this is a product of value."

Nice style, poor quality
Date:October 17, 2012
"This bookcase arrived in a box that did not appear to be damaged in any way. As I was assembling it, I found 2 pieces that were damaged. One was minor and would be covered by books. I was able to glue it together. The other area of damage was a large dent in the very front of the bookcase. Also, the trim at the bottom did not square up, leaving a noticeable gap between the trim and bottom shelf on the right side. We disassembled the bookcase and managed to minimize the gap but could not get rid of it altogether. Very disappointing!"

Great buy
Posted November 25, 2012
I bought one of these to be my first bookshelf back in highschool. The instructions were a little confusing, and I initially confused part of the back for a piece of the base, but that was the only problem I had. Great value, sturdy product and relatively easy assembly. Had it for ten years already and would buy another in a heartbeat if I had the space!

Don't expect good quality
Date:September 5, 2012
"Normally, I am very satisfied with products I have ordered through this site. However, this bookcase fell far short of the mark. First off, let me state it is NOT hardwood. The majority of the wood looks to be pine/manufactured wood with a poor finish. Only the top is quality hardwood. The trim work is flimsy and a number of pieces were splintered. The back is cheap looking particle board. And the color is not as pictured either...though other "oak" finished furniture I have ordered from here is as expected for an oak finish--this is not. It is a cheap looking orange/yellow. I am highly displeased and we are returning it for a full refund. On that fact, Home Decorator's has been wonderful."

great look
Date:August 22, 2012
"This was our 5th one! They have the look of much more expensive bookcases. You save hundreds over the furniture brands. They are a little difficult to figure out assembly the first time but not bad over all. We love the look they have given our ever expanding library. If there was one thing I would change it would be the top and bottom side overhang. It would be nice to be able to place them tightly together. Overall, they are great!"

"A few of the black nob inserts that you pop the front/side facings on were either missing or not aligned properly. Very difficult to get a flush finish appearance on the final assembly. Sort of resmbled poor fitting legos. Needless to say these connectors were not even mentioned in the instructions. Two wood pieces had wood chips missing out of them, used these pieces on the side no one would see, I hope. Noted after assembly it appears to be leaning with the books in place. Probably should have used wood glue when putting together, but after 3 hours of my hard earned time, I am not going to take it apart and reassemble. Put it in the guest bedroom versus the original planned location."
