"The finished product looks good and is sturdy and functional. Assembly was very difficult because of the type of screws and the tool for turning them. The screws were large, size #14 x 1 1/4 ", and meant to be turned by a small 5/32" alan-head wrench. The force required stripped the screw heads. I would recommend a trip to the hardware store for the same size screws with a more common and easier-to-use phillips head. Once I did that, assembly was very easy."

"The bookcase is sturdy and looks nice. The only problem is that the shelves have to be put on upside down because what is supposed to be the tops of the shelves are very roughly finished. What is supposed to be the bottom is nice and smooth. So the beveled edge is not on top, but the shelves still look nice."

"I purchased two of the four shelf mission style bookshelves. They arrived separately but in good condition. The instructions were easy to follow and I had them both put together in less than an hour. I read reviews for the item and was careful to follow other's advice on not tightening the screws/bolts too much and using the wrenches that are provided carefully, etc. Overall I was very pleased with my purchase."

"We purchased two of these 5-shelf bookshelves, to match the 14"w 5-shelf one we had purchased 2 years ago. We have been pleased with the look and the fact that there are a number of widths and heights to adapt to your wall space. It was also nice to find them still in stock, so adding matching shelves is very easy. Even the tall units are stable. The shelves are able to accomodate large books, often a problem with bookcases and the open look keeps the room from appearing too heavy. Assembly is pretty uncomplicated, and goes quickly if you have an assistant, but one person could do it. We will be ordering more sections as our home "library" grows. One of the units was missing a couple of screws and had damage to one board; however there is a customer service online contact to obtain missing or damaged parts."

"The assembly on this was very easy, I barely needed the instruction sheet. I was impressed that the shelves and top were beveled - I was expecting them to have a flat front, so that was cool. It looks great and has high plenty of room between the shelves for tall books or other items. The only thing is you need a small philips head screwdriver to put the top piece together and no where is that discussed. I fortunately had one, otherwise I might have gotten a bit irritated."

"This unit is attractive, easy to assemble and reasonably strong. As seems to be true of the whole line, the wrench provided for assembly is of the same brass material as the screws, and so must be handled with care to last through the whole assembly process. It should be replaced with a steel tool.
The manufacturer claims to use all plantation (as opposed to wild) hardwood, and if true, this is a plus. Quality control could be better: I purchased six units, and saw more dents than I expected (none too serious, though.)
Home Decorators shipping charges are high for an online merchant, and should be revised. There are no breaks for large orders, that I could see."

"I found this product easy to assemble with the allen wrench provided and a soft hammer. There were some shipping dings, but nothing major. It fit the space we needed, and with just the right "things" on it, adds a warm glow to our family room. I put this bookshelf together myself (woman speaking), and found no trouble doing so. I'm not trying to be offensive, but the woman out there who thinks she needs a man to help her, will find this project easy and satisfying."

"I like the look of this bookshelf, which I had purchased before in a larger size. This time, though, the L-shaped tool that is provided to tighten the screws got stripped after ONE SCREW and was unusable. It's a good thing I still had the one from my first bookshelf, because otherwise I would have had the pieces all over my living room and no way to assemble them. Also, the little wood knobs that are meant to cover the screw holes did not fit and kept falling out. I could not use them at all. I still like the bookshelf's design, but this time the workmanship was not as good."

"I ordered this bookcase after receiving a smaller version so I would have matching pieces. I like the openness of the mission style, as I have a small apt. and it gives the illusion of more space. Assembly is not too easy; the enclosed hexigonal screw driver was stripped before I finished the first half, and is hard on the fingers. Luckily I kept the one from the last time, so I was able to finish. One shelf was slightly damaged on the edges, but I was able to work around it. All things considered, I am happy with my purchase, the quality of the product and value for the money spent."
