Well pleased
Date:May 3, 2012
"This is a beautiful shelf and was fairly easy to assemble. I had it ready to use in under 90 minutes. There were a few blemishes on the shelves and one of the screws was stripped as soon as it was put in place. Other than that everything was great. I would purchase this unit again."

Is this really wood?

"The book cases LOOK ok, but the materials are of questionable quality. Time will tell. I wonder how long until the shelves sag or the frame buckles."

Quality Bookshelf
Date:January 12, 2012
"It was just what I was looking for very simple to put together if you have any kind of construction or hobbist skills. A nice solid wood bookshelf not laminated so if you wanted to repaint or stain no problems doing so. Made with very quailty materials not cheap looking."

Mission 38" Wide Bookshelf
Date:December 6, 2011
"I purchased 2 of these and then ordered another after the initial purchase. These are generously wide, and hold a lot of books!
Pros:
Relatively easy to assemble. Make sure you pay attention to top, bottom, back/front orientation.
Attractive, consistent finish.
Good price for what you get.
Good customer service response if received damaged.
Cons:
Wood caps that cover screw holes are inconsistently sized, pay attention to use the smallest caps at the top, or you will split the wood when you tap them in. Even if it splits, still sturdy and not noticable.
Finish is fairly fresh, good to wipe down with a tack cloth after assembly.
Other information:
The hex nut tool that ships for assembly does not replace having a good set of tools on hand. Best if you have a power screwdriver that has the right size hex end.
Make sure you tighten everything up, or it will be wobbly until you do.
The top is 38" wide, and if you put two or three of these side by side, you will have a little space between them due to butting of the top shelf against each other.
The first one took me 45 minutes to assemble, the second 30 minutes, and the third went together in about 20 minutes.

Looks great
Date:December 5, 2011
"Assembly was straightforward and looks better than the photos online. As expected for a lightweight book case with no solid back or diagonal bracing the finished product is not perfectly rigid, although the stability is ok when half loaded with books. A disappointment was that the product arrived with three "dings", one of which was quite deep. These must have happened at the factory since there was no damage to the packing material. Luckily they are hidden by the books. This is such an attractive piece that I have already ordered another one."

Swayed too much!
Date:December 1, 2011
"After putting this bookcase together, I noticed it wouldn't stand straight. The entire bookcase either swayed too far to the left or too far to the right. I tried tightening the screws and other little things but nothing worked. I had read on other reviews that the bookcase was a little wobbly, but this was worse than wobbly. I would have needed to put something strong next to it in order fo it not to sway. so I returned for the folding bookshelves. These are much stronger and better!"

"Nice piece of attractive furniture. Plastic bag holding all screws and small pieces had broken open spilling them into large box.
Would be nice to have phillips head screws rather than the screws requiring that small wrench. Would speed up assembly dramatically.

Beautiful bookcase
Date:September 15, 2011
"I purchased the five shelf bookcase for my den. This is a beautiful bookcase and looks more expensive than it was. I was able to assemble it in about three hours by myself. I especially liked that the bookcase isn't heavy and seems sturdy. I haven't put any books in it as yet, but it is not wobbly. I needed to touch up the finish in several spots, but overall the finish looks good. I will probably purchase another one just like this for another corner of my den."

Just what I needed!
Date:September 14, 2011
"I put this bookcase in my bedroom. Matches my other furniture perfectly. Went together pretty well, would have been a little easier with 2 people. It was missing one of the wooden dowels that covers the screws at the end, but other than that, very pleased. Last year I got one of the stackable bookcases and have already filled it up. It was great also. Will be getting another one for my daughter's room."

Looks Beautiful with the open back
Date:August 6, 2011
"I bought this for a few reason - the open back allows the color of the walls to show through. The full size is less imposing on the room. The light color of the is gorgeous and complemented existing furniture in my room, and it's REAL WOOD. I love it and will likely buy another one! It would be nice to have two allen wrenches for faster assembly if you have someone to help. The heads of the screws weren't compatiable with my power screw driver. The wood caps to cover the screws are a nice finished touch but had to be tapped in with a hammer, but look OK."

Good value for the money
Date:July 24, 2011
"Don't get me wrong -- this is a nicely sized bookshelf, nice and wide and holds a LOT of books. I liked the price and the open airy feeling. Packaging was good, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it's made of real wood, not laminated particle board. I'm not going to complain about finger joints at this price, and the finish is better than the norm. Assembly was a cinch, but one of the screws that secures the shelves split out the wood. Bummer, but nothing a little glue and a clamp couldn't fix. Biggest complaint is that it's rather rickety -- that's apparently the flip side of the open-airy design. Bottom line, it's a lot of bookshelf for the money, but not something I'd put in a high traffic area."

"this was very easy to assemble and looks great. It is a bit wobbly, but that may be because it has slats on the side and isn't a solid design. Works perfect if you want a look where the shelf melds into the background."

Attractive & Functional
Date:April 28, 2011
"I have a small office nook, and I wanted to maximize book storage space while minimizing the floor space that any piece occupied. This stacked bookshelf works perfectly. It also meets two additional requirements: It has legs that enable me to easily clean under it, and it has an open back, allowing my wall color to show through. It was easy to assemble, although the handful of pegs that come with it to cover screw holes needed to be glued in (I had hoped I could just pop them in). I am so pleased with it than I am ordering a matching single unit for an opposite wall."

I liked the first one so much I bought two more!
Date:March 31, 2011
"I have a small house and a lot of books, so I'm always looking for ways to maximize wall space. It was long past time to replace an ugly little metal bookcase that was as inadequate as it was unattractive. It had been a long search trying to find something that would do the job and fit with my craftsman/mission style furnishings when I saw this unit and ordered the 5-shelf version, hoping it would be as attractive in reality as it was in the picture. I was not disappointed. It took me a while to get the hang of putting it together, but it was completely assembled in one hour, and I was very happy with it. Some of the written instructions were a bit odd...as if the writer wasn't used to writing in English, and there was no mention of the wood plugs to fill the screw holes...At any rate, it can fit a lot of books, but because of its open structure it doesn't look bulky or block light like a solid-sided piece would. In fact, I liked it so much that I purchased two more to replace a couple bookcases in my office that needed to be retired."
