"Overall, I am very pleased with them. The color is what I expected and they are sufficiently sturdy and look nice. They were packaged well and arrived without any damage. I was expecting 38" shelves and they are only 35". I did notice the top extends beyond the shelf a bit but didn't factor that in my expectation of a 38" shelf. The only negative I found was the allen wrench included for assembly was very poor quality and began to strip out right away. However, I had other allen wrenches and it assembled easily with a better wrench."

"This bookcase would be a great purchase at the regular price. However, I got it for 20% off with free shipping. That's great for this good-looking all- wood bookcase. It fits perfectly in our family room and holds all our DVD/Blue Ray movies. On the bottom shelf I used three Martha Stewart fabric bins to hold other family room items, e.g. Games, puzzles, remotes."

"I've only had these up for 2 weeks, but they look great. It was the cheapest bookshelf I could find in the style & color, but I'm very pleased with the quality. My husband did complain about putting them together (you had to apply pressure from two sides to do it easily), but once put together they are great!"

"Furniture from the Artisan Collection fits beautifully with our Craftsman/Mission decor. Real wood is used throughout, not some composition board covered with wood-print paper.
When assembling the bookcase, I found it difficult to attach the sides because the shelves are attached flush with screws, and the back rails are held in with pegs. The least frustrating approach for me was to assemble the whole piece with screws turned in only a few revolutions. After all the pegs and holes are loosely assembled, then the screws can be tightened gradually to prevent any of the pegs from popping out of their holes due to misalignment."

Almost Perfect Value Except for Supplied Tools

"The wood quality is very nice and you can barely see the joints where pieces are made from splicing smaller pieces together. This process is expected for lower-cost wood products but the fit and finish does a great job in hiding it. You can't buy real wood at this price without these joints, and I would rather have this than cardboard (cheap) or solid wood (expensive).
The finish looks great and is consistent across 3 products I bought to work together in the same room.
For the building process, the instructions were not bad. The only thing that needs improvement is the supplied Allen wrench, which is made of such poor and soft metal that it began to strip under the normal pressure needed to put it together. After one Allen screw became "unturnable" about half-way in, I had to go find a hardware-store quality wrench to finish putting it together."

"Since I use consumer feedback as a means to learn more about a product, I wanted to report that my shelves do not have any of the varnish problems or inconsistencies noted by some others. I was surprised at just how orange the honey oak color was, but it fits my room perfectly. Someone else may be less thrilled. I also want to add that I asembled my shelves with no assistance and had zero difficulty with it.Now that I have filled them top to bottom with books, I do notice a little sway if I attack the bookshelf, but there is no movement to speak of if I use the shelf normally. As an open back shelf, there is bound to be some rock, but not enough for me to think that the unit cannot be safely crammed with books. HDC was having a terrific sale when I got mine, and I am very pleased with their value and look."

"I ordered a 29.5"w 3 shelf and a 38"w 5 shelf Mission bookcase on 7/22/12 & received them undamaged on 7/26/12. The 3 shelf is perfect.
The only defect in the 5 shelf is that on every shelf there are one or two darker (than the honey oak color) 1&1/2"w stripes 4" to 6" long running back to front. It is as if some bars were laid on top of the shelves and then some final coat was sprayed on the shelves. Because I am using them for storage purposes I am not requesting the the 5 shelves be replaced.

I am a almost 69 yr. old female, living by myself for the past 25 yrs. and doing almost everything by myself. The units were easy to assemble.
I do suggest that the tool for screwing the large screws either be made of harder metal or that 2 be included in the kit. The first one was stripped before I completed one side of the 5 shelf unit. The one with the 3 shelf unit completed the job for both. It was briefly frustrating when I thought I would have to go purchase a tool.

"It's a decent bookshelf and yet completely average. I would recommend this bookshelf to others, I just happen to think it's a completely average deal for the price. Not great, not terrible.
PROS: Color, ease of assembly.

"This is a beautiful shelf and was fairly easy to assemble. I had it ready to use in under 90 minutes. There were a few blemishes on the shelves and one of the screws was stripped as soon as it was put in place. Other than that everything was great. I would purchase this unit again."
