"I bought 2 of these. They were out of stock when I ordered them, but they came 2 weeks earlier than expected and very quickly after I ordered it. My husband assembled them, and it went so quickly that I didn't even have a chance to offer my help. (He's a pretty handy guy tho.) They are fairly solid, just a very slight wiggle when no books are on it. The weight of the books makes it sit nice and firmly on the floor. The pieces are solid wood, no particle or pressed board. I couldn't find anything locally that was close to this level of quality without spending a great deal more money, even considering shipping. I'm very happy with my purchase."

"This bookshelf looks great, good quality, lots of shelf space, and wasn't too difficult for 2 people to put together. I would've given 5 stars overall if not for two things: one, the shelf itself actually measures 35". The only part that measures 38" is the top shelf, and while this is technically the maximum dimension it would be nice if it were specified on the website that shelf space is actually 35". Also, the plugs that go over the screws are too small, I will have to glue them in. Overall, however, I love it and am satisfied with my purchase."

"I have purchased a number of items from Home Decorators including mission style oak furniture in various finishes. This bookcase is the honey oak which I find to be a little more orange than I would prefer, but it worked fine for my purposes. The shelve was delivered quickly with all parts included. It was easy to put together and a bit easier using electric screwdriver with allen bit."

"These shelves look great and are very solid and finished nicely. I bought the honey oak color and it was exactly as pictured. The little allen wrench that comes with the screws is a bit soft, and I had to get a better one from the garage to finish the assembly job. It takes a bit of hand muscle to assemble, but isn't difficult to figure out. Far better quality than mission-style shelves I viewed at bigger stores that featured veneered pressed wood type of shelves for only a little less money."

"The 5-shelf black bookcase looks very nice, but I was very disappointed to see upon opening the packaging that a chunk of the left front foot was missing; I didn't see it in the box, so this might have occurred before the shelf left the factory or warehouse.
Thankfully, the damage does not affect the shelf's stability, and I have the shelf oriented in such a way that the unsightly missing chunk is not visible to the casual observer, but I expected better from Home Decorators."

"Based on all the reviews i had already read about these bookcases, i felt hopeful that they'd be all that we'd hoped for. And they were. The only imperfection was a slight crack in one of the pieces, but my husband assures me it's not in a load bearing piece. Even the allen wrench worked for the entire installation. We bought the largest one they had -- the 38" wide x 72" high and it fits perfectly in our study. we may have to buy another one! And the honey oak color is just what i'd hoped for and is compatible with another teak bookcase we have. Incredible quality for the price. i despaired of ever finding a solid wood solution in this price range. These are GREAT!"

"I've purchased two of these bookshelves in the past and I love them. However, with the last one I ordered, I noticed a decrease in the quality of the wood finish. The shelf surface that is used is fine, smooth and finished properly. The underside is rough, and although stained properly, it could have used some more sanding so the finish and feel would be the same as the top surface. The shelves I've ordered in the past had a uniform quality to the entire shelf. I was a little disappointed that Home Decorators allows this lapse in quality."

"Overall, this was a great purchase and the product fits our needs perfectly. We did notice that there seemed to be a few places where the wood was blemished; it could have possibly been damage from shipping. (Since the places were small and not noticeable, we opted not to attempt a return.) The piece was easy to assemble, and all of the hardware was included. At first we did have some difficulty with the plugs as mentioned in a prior review, and they did have to be hammered in. Be sure to use a soft cloth to prevent damage. For the money, this is a pretty nice looking piece. Shipping was quick too.
This is our second purchase, and we have not been disappointed!"

"This definitely fits my need. My husband is not too handy but did get things together without too much huffing and puffing. There were two things that weren't in the easy category, the top which had no places marked as to positioning on the sides and then the little doodads that were supposed to cover the screws, we just gave up on those because they did not fit into the slots and when hammered lost their coating. But overall good and it didn't matter about the screws, didn't show."

"I ordered the 3-shelf high 38"W and 45"W mission-style bookcases in honey oak. I could barely believe when they arrived a mere 2 days later - on Saturday - via Fed-ex!
I chose these shelves b/c of the options regarding the available widths and heights - almost customizeable. Unfortunately the website lists the height of the 3-shelf high cases as 48", which would have fit exactly perfectly underneath my fireplace mantle. The bookcases are actually over 49" high, and therefore do not fit as-is.
However, the bookcases are of such high quality - beautiful finish, heavy, and sturdy (they are described as solid wood/wood veneer and I am hard-pressed to find anything that is not solid wood) and such a good price that I am going to take a chance and try to saw off 1.5" off the legs.
Assembly was easy (with 2 ppl). The honey-oak color - purchased site unseen - is darker than I was hoping for, but is still a really nice light-cherry color; I didn't check if there was a way to get a sample beforehand - but if not that would be a nice option."

""This unit is attractive, easy to assemble and reasonably strong. As seems to be true of the whole line, the wrench provided for assembly is of the same brass material as the screws, and so must be handled with care to last through the whole assembly process. It should be replaced with a steel tool.
The manufacturer claims to use all plantation (as opposed to wild) hardwood, and if true, this is a plus. Quality control could be better: I purchased six units, and saw more dents than I expected; this unit was damaged on the side, not enough to send back, but enough to be annoying.
Home Decorators shipping charges are high for an online merchant, and should be revised. There are no breaks for large orders, that I could see.""

"I chose this bookcase because it has a light profile. It is in a small bedroom used as a reading room and I didn't want a heavy piece that would overwhelm the space. This piece, in black, looks modern and sleek. For the price the craftsmanship is OK, but one of the wooden pieces used to join the shelves was bent a bit and wouldn't have worked if my husband hadn't modified it a bit."
