"I think that this bookcase is an excellent value. Although it takes a little time to put it together, the directions are reasonably clear. There were only a few minor discrepancies between the directions and what was actually required in assembling the bookcase. The reviews I read about how difficult it is to assemble are off base as far as I am concerned. If you can read directions and follow diagrams, it is realitively easy to assemble. Careful use of an electric screwdriver or drill makes assembly mulch quicker and easier. When completed, both my wife and I were very pleased with the bookcase. It is very attractive and fit the bill perfectly for the use intended."

hard to assemble

"It was extremely difficult to assemble.
It fell apart when half assembled.the pieces are heavy.
Had to ask someone else to reassemble it. It looks pretty nice but did have some damage when it fell apart.
I would not recommend this unless you are very strong and handy with tools."

"I had been looking for a cabinet to store DVDs in that could be muktifunctional and not have glass doors to match my mission style furniture. This cabinet really fit those criteria, and I was very pleased. Assembly was maybe a little more complicated than my husband would have liked, but the end result was all worth it. Very pleased. Also, the actual appearance was exactly as pictured, matching my furniture remarkably well"

"Bought this in Dec. 2010- also purchased matching TV stand. Both were easy to put together with 2 people doing the work. Instructions were easy to follow- don't know why other reviews said they were hard. Both look great and had no problems with them at all (no missing pieces or damage). I am very happy with my purchases!!! :)"

"First time ordering from Home Decorators Collection. Product was just like the discription.
Ordered over phone with customer service since I wanted to have the item shipped to a different address than mine. Order was shipped as stated. Have put lots of furniture together. Both my husband and myself thought the instructions were clear, better than most other instructions of put together furniture and item was easy to assemble. It did take 2 people since some of the pieces were to large for one person to handle and assemble at the same time.Would give this item and customer service a 5 star rating. The item was on sale and I lucked out with free shipping. For the money it is a great piece of furniture."

"We found this piece to be fairly difficult to assemble. The directions had some mistakes and some of the screws were in difficult places to assemble. The piece does look good when finished though."

"Nice looking cabinet when complete. Assembly was somewhat difficult with one person. The cam locks actually broke the wood and I ended up using screws instead. The color of the macintosh is very, very dark; as one would expect from the name. However, I have ordered three other pieces, two in macintosh and one in dark oak. This piece was much darker than the other two macintosh pieces. The dark oak piece is very orange."

"The assembly instructions are the best ever. Every piece is clearly labeled and fits together perfectly. This is the fouth piece of furniture I've purchased from Home Decorator's and each time I've been amazed at the quality and workmanship. Bravo!"

Really Nice but Hard to Assemble

"Once this unit was put together, I loved it, but assembly was very difficult. I've put together lots of pieces of furniture, but I found this one very challenging - mainly because I followed the directions. The directions had you nailing the back on at the end but it should have had you putting the back on before the doors were attached and while the piece was still lying on the floor. Without the back on, when I stood the unit up, it was very unstable and when I added the doors, it would not stay upright. Once I removed the doors, laid the unit down and put the back on, the rest of the assembly was smooth sailing."

"I purchased one of these cabinets and loved it so much, I puchased a second the following week. Although it took me a over 2 hours to put this together, the pieces were very well marked -- so it was not "difficult" just time consuming. The packing was awesome -- not a scratch. All parts and all screws/etc. were present.
I am waiting for additional Craftsman pieces to arrive. Meanwhile, I highly recommend this beutiful (classy) bookcase for any need (I am using mine for clothing)."

"WE have ordered 3 craftsman dark oak pieces, desk, TV unit and bookcase and they are all listed under the same color and all three are different. ONe is almost orange and the bookcase looks cherry.
We are getting ready to order a smaller bookcase and wondering what color it would be. We like the product design enough to take our chances but even though we understand die lots can be off, these colors are WAY off and different."

"This is a beautiful bookcase. It looks as good as it does in the picture. Husband put it together by himself, said it was moderately easy. It will make a nice place for him to put his books in his office. We liked it because it has wooden doors and can keep his stacks of books out of view:)"
