"I can only guess that the manufacturer uses some sort of ammonia based product in the manufacturing of this rug, perhaps to prep the leather strips, as my 100% housebroken chihuahua suddenly started relieving himself on this rug on a daily basis. I actually caught him in the act one day and when I rolled back the rug from the floor, I found "spots" all over the rug where he'd been eliminating on the rug......something he had never done on any other rug in our home! I'd be curious to know if others have noticed the same problem with their rugs.
Also, while some "shedding" was expected, I found myself collecting leather strips by the handful on a daily basis and, while the shedding slowed some after a while, it continued to shed the entire time I had it down in the room. Odor was never a problem, though I only had it down in the room for a month when I discovered the dog's new "habit"."

"What a pleasant surprise! In June we purchased two of these shag rugs for our great room. From some of the reviews, we feared "horrible odors"...Each shag rug did contain a MILD odor, which disappeared within a few days.
We were told that the leather would "soften" once the rugs were out...They were correct, in that the leather feels much solfter on bare feet.
The rugs look lovely on our exotic wood floors. For the price, we are VERY satisfied with these shag rugs."

"I had high hopes for this rug b/c a friend has a larger version of same the rug. The odor of the rug is strong and not in a good way. The leather pieces fall out and the color is different than what I saw in the picture. I will be retuning this item."

"Rug did have a leather smell but not too bad. Just aired it out a day. It is a bit dusty though but I don't notice it tracking through the house. Not soft on feet but not terrible either. I'm using it in the main floor half bath. Looks nice!"

"I saw a 2X3 like this in a resale shop that was pricey. I went home, found it here and paid a few dollars more for a much bigger beautiful rug. The colors are outstanding. There was no smell except for quality leather. I put it in my foyer so it is the first thing people see when they enter my home. My dogs do not chew on it either which was a worry. Love this rug!!"

"I needed area rugs that were different yet still softening for the bedroom and these leather rugs were perfect...They give that little extra pizazze that I was looking for but still keep a clean, contemporary, yet inviting look. The only draw-back is that they could be alittle softer under your feet...takes alittle getting use to! They look great though!!"

"This product when received looked much different than pictured on the Intranet. Also had a very heavy leather smell and was very dusty, so much that it could not be walked on without tracking small leather fragments (size of dust) around house."

"This is a gorgeous rug, similar to one we purchased a couple years ago. Unlike our other leather shag, however, this one has an intense, mildewy odor that just won't give up IT has lessened a bit, after a month's time airing out in our house. We're hopeful that, eventually, the smell will disappear since it really is a very vibrant, well-made piece!"

"Rug color description and photo did not adequately reflect what it looked like. It was more than a tan in color. It has an odd green color of leather strips. Additionally, the distribution of leather strips were too far apart. Each strip was sufficiently wide, but there were an insufficient amount. The backing could be seen through it. Rug returned."

"I had this rug for about 1 year. It does not last. It has been shedding and continues to shed leather on my floor. It now has bald spots, the leather has shed so much. Also, it does not stay in place, it doesn't matter that I have bought several rug pads, non of them work. It bunches up all of the time. And it is very hard to clean. The leather clogs the vacuum cleaner, and it's too heavy to shake out all of the time. I do not recommend this rug to anyone."

"This leather shag rug was horrible! The backing was rubber and it smelled like old used tires. I had to take it out on the patio after opening it because the smell was foul and toxic. The leather was crudely cut and the finish was raw. I used the same shipping box and enclosed label to return it. It cost $50.12 to ship it back and I am very annoyed about that too."
