"the external look is beautiful and goes great with my home decor. you would never know it's a filing cabinet. the inside construction is a little inferior. i had to add some wood glue on one of the cabinets inside drawer and then stain it. i would still recommend this, it is beautiful and unique."

Not What I Expected

"Good: The piece came promptly and was easy to assemble (nothing to it, just screw in feet and put file bars in place). It has character and to get a piece of similar style, it would be much more than $200.

Bad: The leather is cheap and is covered over with a paint-like material that makes it hard and brittle (corners wear easily to expose the wood underneath). The wood behind the cabinet is particle board and part of the handle is made of plastic. Finally, the file cabinet space is very shallow.

All in all, it looks nice from far away and gives the room character but I got what I paid for... A cheap imitation of an antique file cabinet.

I paid for shipping and freight for it to come and for $200, its not worth it to return it at my cost (returns are "easy" but you have to pay for it). It would cost almost a 1/2 of the price just to return it!

Just understand that this is not great quality..."

"I really like this! It looks so classy in an office. The only two issues I have had are the smell and the file hanging bars. The smell can be overwhelming at first but I put laundry drier sheets in the drawers and it dissipated within a couple of days. One of the file hanging bars is shorter than the rest which makes the files fall on one side. I just have to be very careful when working in that drawer or I have to remove everything to put the bar back in place."

"This piece looks good on paper but the workmanship was not that great. The stain was uneven and non existent in some areas. The drawers are not that deep so they do not hold as much as I thought they would. Looks good not very practical."

"I love the look of these little guys, but the functionality is not so good. For starters, regular size manila file folders do not fit; only the dark green hanging files that contain them. This can be remedied by simply making the file rack slits a half-inch longer, but I'm a consumer, not a furniture maker. The file size should have been specified. It's almost as if they were meant to be small bedside dressers and they were quickly converted into file cabinets. I still like them a lot, but eh...it's a hassle. Second, I bought two and on one, the top drawer does not slide so easily, while the bottom one is fine; it's like a closet door constantly off its rails. Finally, the size is very tiny. If you're looking to house lots of files, either get a double decker or go with something else. The best part of this file cabinet is the appearance. Think form over function on this one."

"The piece is a good value but one of the metal arms for the hanging files is just too short to sturdily hold up the files. What a nuisance. I like Home Decorators but have found some little thing wrong with every purchase, including this one."

"This filing cabinet is of poor quality and arrived with rust all over the hardware. The "leather" was cracked and peeling. Looks like the item was purchased from a lot of goods that were salvaged from a flood or shipwreck."

"What a pleasure this purchase was! I was looking for something that wouldn't look like office furniture that actually served the purpose intended, and it is everything I had hoped for. I first purchased a "decorator" file cabinet from OfficeMax and it took about 45 to put together only to find the side drawer panels were warped, making it difficult to open and close. "Overall a very cheap looking piece. The package was received in very poor condition. The drawers skiders were broken. The remaining non-damaged drawer would not slide smmothly. The package was retuned for refund."

Looks Good, Smells Horrid

"This cabinet is very attractive; I bought it for appearance since I had to store some files out in an open area of my house. It has as much storage room in the drawers as I expected when studying the dimensions.

But it smells really awful--a strong odor from the stain that was used on it and it isn't dissipating readily. The wood on the back is very thin and cheap. A strip of it was already cracked off on arrival. Also backs of the drawers are just stapled on and were coming loose on arrival.

Good appearance but not good workmanship for the price and shipping expense."

"I love the look of the file drawers, it fits in well wtih my room without making it look to much like an office.
It is a little top heavy and tends to tip, I try to keep heavier files in the bottom drawer.
The product does have a bad smell, but seems to lessen over time.
The covering is thin and had a few places that needed a little extra glue."

"It looks great and is as sturdy as traditional metal file cabinets. Also, it shipped to me in just three days. It had an odor but a day airing outdoors helped and it was completely gone within a week. I'm very pleased!"
