"This file cabinet (purchased for my husband's office) was delivered very quickly, along with two other large bookcases I ordered at the same time. The piece is lovely, but there are two main drawbacks. 1) The drawers are not very deep. They are about an inch shorter than all my other file cabinets. And 2) the screws that attach the drawers to the rails don't hold very well in the drawer sides which are made of a composite material. One has already pulled out after only a few days use.
BEWARE: The glue that is included for assembly comes in a flimsy little bottle and the bottle tip pops off when you try to use it. The first time I was squeezing glue into a hole, the tip popped off and I got glue all over the piece I was gluing as well as all over my carpet. I tested the other two glue bottles that came with my bookcases and they both did the same thing. I ended up using my own wood glue for all three pieces that I assembled.
I assembled this piece in just a couple of hours. Follow the instructions carefully and you should have no problems."

Very good file cabinet for the price.
Date:September 5, 2010
"As other reviewers have noted, the file cabinet is a bit more orange in color than its pictures. Assembly went well although the steps requiring the screws to be put in at an angle are a bit tricky. A couple of pieces were broken but were very promptly replaced. The finished file cabinet is quite sturdy. It is an excellent value for the price."

Can you say ugly?
Date:April 25, 2010
"Really like the dimensions and the storage capacity of this cabinet. However, can you say U-G-L-Y UGLY! It is a tiger-colored orange, stripes included. Not what I would describe as "honey oak." I'll talk to my creative friends and see what we can do to make the appearance bearable. Until then, maybe I can file with my eyes closed."

Good quality

"I was reluctant to buy this piece when I read that it was hard to put together. But the directions really weren't that hard to understand. I was pleased with the finished product. It is very sturdy. My only complaint is that the color desription states that the color may be a little different due to different computer monitors. However, it is completely different. I made it work but it wasn't even close to the color I expected. It's still a great cabinet and I am pleased with it."

File Chest with Stripes

"The finish on the antique oak file chest has a very surprising almost zebra stripe like appearance. When I look at the picture on line, it does not. I don't know if this is just a problem in the manufacture of the chest I received, or is the same in all of these chests. I decided to keep the chest even with the odd finish because I am using it in an upstairs hallway, so the color is not critical.
This is a very solid chest, but it was difficult to put together and took my husband and I a number of hours to assemble. The chest arrives in two large boxes and is completely disassembled with literally hundreds of pieces (96 of one type of screw alone). This is not a good project unless you are a person that is handy with tools and knows how to closely follow detailed instructions. Had I realized just how much assembly was really required, I would have shopped for a preassembled piece of furniture."

Fine for our needs
Date:March 11, 2010
"We purchased this file cabinet in walnut. In person, it is actually a bit lighter and a tiny bit more orange-y than what I'd call "walnut." The stock picture looks darker than it really is.
The assembly was somewhat complicated, but doable. My husband and son spent 3 hours working on it, but everything eventually went together just fine. They used extra wood glue, as the amount of wood glue in the kit was small, considering the size of the cabinet.
I really like the size of this. I had a specific space to fit the cabinet in, and I am happy about the way it fits--not too big, and not too small.
Overall, I'm satisfied with it, especially for the price. It will hold the books and papers we need to store in it, and even though it's lighter than I had imagined, it looks fine."

Good for What I Need it For
Date:February 11, 2009
"I have to admit I was a bit nervous when I read other reviews on this product regarding the lengthy assembly and misaligned holes. I decided to risk it and ordered it anyway.
I had put off replacing my old black filing cabinets for more than 10 years. Upon receiving the box, I was heartened by the weight of the box. The visible parts are made of solid wood and veneers. Two thumbs up so far.
Although my husband is the carpenter in the family, I decided to tackle the assembly myself with our screwgun. It took me 2.5 hours to get most of it together. I had to wait until my husband arrived home to lift the pieces into place and have him tighten some of the screws. It took another half hour to complete the assembly. There was only one hole that was not drilled all the way through. It was easy to fix.
Overall, the completed file cabiniet ties together our office very well. It is not a fine piece of furniture but for my purposes, it more than suffices. My only gripe is that for this price tag, it should have arrived in one piece, no assembly required."

Very difficult to assemble
Date:January 5, 2009
"This file cabinet looks great but took a skilled pro over four hours to assemble. When it was time to put on the top, the holes did not align with the pegs; pegs had to be moved and holes redrilled. I would have returned the item at that point if so much time was not already invested. Had I known the level of difficulty involved, I would have gladly spent several hundred dollars more to buy a completely assembled piece at retail."

Very Nice file cabinet
Date:December 4, 2008
"This cabinet has to be in our family room, so I chose something that looked more like furniture, less like a file cabinet. We are happy with the quality. It is solid wood except for the inside construction of the actual file drawers which seem to be a composite of some kind. but no veneers that we can tell at all. I'm glad my husband knows how to put things together because I would have been overwhelmed by all the pieces and parts that were laying flat on our family room floor at the beginning. it took him about 2 plus hours to assemble it. He used his drill for some of it to tighten screws, etc. which saved some wrist action. If you aren't handy or forgot where your tools are, I'd recommend recruiting a friend or paying a handyman to come put it together. But it looks great and I can't wait to get organized! I'd recommend it. Also, the wood tones are like fruitwood cherry...a little on the reddish side. not a true walnut as it was named. It doesn't look like Bernhardt or other ultra fine furniture, but better than anything else I've seen for blending in with nicer pieces."
