"I was a little leery of how difficult this might be to assemble after reading other reviews. I have assembled a decent amount of furniture in the past and I found these instructions VERY easy to follow! It took me about 3 hours to assemble...my advice is to just take your time and you will have no problems! I did all of the asembly by myself, but you should probably have a helper when it comes to the very end as the pieces are heavy.
The quality of the product is excellent! There are lots of "extras" that you don't usually see on this type of furniture. As far as the appearance...it looks like something you would pay hundreds more for in a fine furniture store. I will definitely buy from this collection again!"

"I had been looking at other, more expensive, file cabinets on Home Decorators and came across this one in the clearance section. What a great value! Good sturdy piece of furniture and moderately easy to put together. I did it myself and it probably took about an hour and a half.
I did have two pieces that were slightly damaged when they arrived, but I called customer service and they were MORE than helpful in resolving.
I will definitely order from Home Decorators again!"

"I'm a smallish woman with bad knees, and I still managed to assemble this piece by myself using an impact driver and a small, powered screwdriver. It took about 2 hours, including unpacking all the pieces and bagging up the packing materials. (Plastic, styrofoam, etc.)
I was pleased to find that half of the drawer slides are already in place. You only have to put on the slides that attach to the sides of the drawers since the slides that attach to the cabinet itself are pre-attached.
Once assembled, this is a very heavy piece of furniture. In terms of appearance, the eggshell-black finish shows no woodgrain at all. (Think painted, not stained.) The back is definitely not meant to be seen, but the fact that it is black means that it can be used as a wing alongside a desk if you don't mind the slightly unsightly back panels showing. I did not like the silvery plastic-looking drawer pulls. While they are very heavy and feel like they're definitely going to last, the dull silver finish looked less like brushed steel and more like silver plastic, so I painted them with a lightly metallic black Krylon spray paint to match my lamps and other hardware.
The drawers were a tad difficult to insert into the existing slides, but when I finally resorted to brute force, they slid into place. Despite the fact that all the holes for the screws are pre-drilled, the drawers do not sit squarely in their sections, and the edges rub the cabinet a bit when they're opened and closed. I am concerned that the paint/finish will wear down in those areas. Of course I have only had the cabinet for a couple weeks, so only time will tell.
Oh--and unless you have a carpeted floor, you'll want to get some felt for the bottom. There's no way it won't scratch hardwood.
I will be getting a piece of glass cut to sit on top of the cabinet since the black model definitely shows every scratch. (Which is not the fault of the manufacturer but a result of my own color choice.)
Bottom line--as long as there's a sale on, I would buy from this product line again."

"One piece came with a broken edge which I glued back together but everything else was as pictured and assembled easily. Follow the instructions carefully assembling the pieces as pictured and it should be a breeze. I did this by myself in about 2 hours."

"Beautiful and easy to assemble, although it does take a few hours. The one complaint I have is that the drawer slide holes didn't match up to the screw holes in the drawers, but I just drilling my own which seems to have worked fine. Then difficulty was deciding where the drilled holes should go to get proper placement of the drawers in the piece. We have a weird vent on the ground where the bottom shelf should be, so to get the piece to sit next to the wall I had to take that bottom shelf out. The color I got was cherry, and it looks as expected."

"I have shopped with HD for about 20 years. Most everything I have purchased has been quality for the price. This particular piece was no different! My DH put it together for me as a Christmas present... he is very good at this sort of assembly, but what made it easier for him was the great instructions. HD has improved on this aspect over the years and makes it much easier for diyers to assembly their products.
I highly recommend this piece - it is the type of piece that goes with other styles (except maybe barouqe :-) in my office."

"We purchased this for our wedding planning office. The pieces came with quite a few small scratches and scuffs. We were able to clean the scuff marks with a Magic Eraser, but the scratches remain. Assembly took longer than expected...we followed instructions but had to start over a number of times when certain things weren't specified."

"I purchased this unit & it is a disaster! I have a desk and office chair to this group and they were okay. But this piece is ridiculous. I have had to call for a replacement shelf as the holes for the cam nuts are NOT a good fit. They twist back once tightened and this includes replacement. Guess what? The replacement shelf also does not fit well. The unit keeps coming apart!!!I wish I had NOT purchased it, now I am stuck wondering how to get stability enough to use it."

"Bought this to compliment the 4 drawer tall so had no illusions about the depth of the drawers. Assembly was easy, parts were all marked well, screws fit fine. Two of us put it together in under 2 hours (while watching tv). Holds the flat screen tv and all the nit-noy odds and ends that were cluttering up that spot in the room. One of the knobs was threaded wrong but a quick on-line request for a new knob and the parts and repair were done within about 4 days."

"Product came in two separate - large boxes - with 1 week in between. Box 1 had not shipping information, instructions or advisement to wait for 2nd box.
Putting together was not necessarily easy, and in the end, there was a notice that the cabinet might tip over, therefore there were wall brackets included. I never expected to have to put holes in the wall to keep the product upright and useable. Disappointing."
