"This desk is very sturdy and durable. It took time to assemble but the instructions were clear. My only drawback is that the magnets holding the door closed should probably be a little stronger. The main door had fallen down initially as my kids ran by, after an adjustment to the magnet setting this hasn't happened since. Otherwise, a great purchase and I would recommend it."

"I am impressed with the quality and look of the piece. The only, some what of a, down side was the assembly. It has 399 pieces and took me about 7 hours to complete. But, the the instructions were easy to follow, everything was clearly labeled and nothing was missing. The finished product is definitely worth the effort."

Room Looks So Neat Now

"Since downsizing into a home that is half the size of our previous house I could no longer have my desk in a room of it's own. My previous workspace was a hodge-podge of computer desk, file cabinets and printers, as well as books, magazines, etc. Needless to say it was a messy eyesore positioned between the living room and dining room of my new home.
This 3 file drawer office center was the perfect answer. I simply added some magazine holders and some storage boxes to the top and managed to have everything else fit inside the unit. Now I can close things up and have a the area look neat, plus I saw extra matching file cabinets are also available if I need additional space for all my stuff. Sweet!
I can't speak to how difficult this was to put together since my husband and his friend did it in just a few hours and never even cursed, so I guess it wasn't too awful.
I know Home Decorators items are not the highest quality furniture available, but with the constant changes in interior decorating styles they offer excellent style for a bargain price."

"We had been looking for a year for a black desk that would look like furniture when not in use. Bought a small one previously that was very inadequate and unstable.
Saw this desk but the shipping costs and some reviews about assembly made us hesitate. We are sorry we waited...this one is great! Lots of usable storage in a very compact space. When not open, it really is a nice piece of furniture in our small den.
We had no trouble with assembly, you just need to get organized before you start. Yes, 2 people are needed but the parts were well-marked and properly pre-drilled. It does come in 4 heavy boxes."

Great Piece of Furniture!

"We ordered this after looking for several hours, and local furniture stores and couldnt find anything we like that would hide our computer since it is in our kitchen/nook area. This piece is beautiful! It looks great in our breakfast area and looks like a buffet. You wouldnt know it keeps our computer in there. Our printer fits, in the double door compartment on the bottom and have plenty of room for checkbooks, bills etc.! We use the cabinet on the right to plug in and charge our cell phone/ kids DS's etc. I love this piece! It took 5 hours to put together & that was with help from an engineer! Without our good friend it would have taken my husband & I 2 days probably! Great price, great piece!"

"I shopped around quite a bit before purchasing this unit. Realizing from the reviews that assembly would be a challenge, I poured a cup of coffee and allotted an entire Saturday. It took me around 8 hours to assemble myself (leisurely), though I did need another person to help with a few steps along the way. Overall, I thought the instructions were very clear, pieces aligned, holes properly drilled, etc. I had concerns about the chains holding much weight on the doors, but after several weeks, it appears to be very sturdy. My only criticism would be that the drawers and area under the fold-down door are difficult to access when the door is open, but that is the nature of the design. A similar desk I really liked was in Ballard Designs, but with shipping would have cost 3 times more, so I think this was a very good value."

"This unit is exactly what I needed for my computer/laundry room. It has wonderful compartments and drawers. The drawer glides on the small drawers are not very well made so we had to make some adjustments to get them to open and close smoothly. The file drawers are nice and those glides are a little better quality. Overall it is the nicest unit of its kind that I have seen. The paint job and wood are nice quality. It arrived in 4 large boxes and was challenging to put together but once you get "rolling" it gets easier. I do feel however that the price I paid at $399.00 should have included shipping ... it absolutely killed me to pay $100.00 in shipping! I am however very pleased with my purchase and feel that the end result is worth it."

"Okay quality, but the instructions were poorly written and assembly was difficult since it was missing a few of the required bolts. My husband needed to make several improvisations to compensate for missing parts. Also, it arrived with a few scratches on it; fortunately these face the wall and are not that noticable. Overall, nice looking and great spaces for printer and computer. A little disappointed with the price since assembly was such a headache."

"the pieces of this item are very heavy and unwieldy, even for two people. the instructions are fairly clear, but some of the hardware is not sturdy and some of the pieces were not correctly machined. overall it looks nice and as i have no plans to move it i think it will work out for me. i would NOT recommend this if you are in a rental or other short-term living situation, or if you like to rearrange your furniture a lot."

Looks Great - hard to assemble

"Overall we really like it and we are very happy.
Good -- looks great, has lots of storage space and is very roomy. It is very functional and is great for anyone looking for a home office space that can be tucked away out of sight. It is very sturdy and well built and the finish is beautiful.
Bad -- difficult to assemble: comes in 4 boxes and really takes 2 people to do the job. It also lacks venting for a desktop computer, you will want to put some extra vents in the back or leave the door open when you have your computer running to provent overheating."
