"I got this to go at the foot of our bed. It looks okay there but I guess I should have gotten the longer one, this one looks a little stumpy but okay.
My husband who is an automechanic and used to putting things together was cursing while doing this one. I made him read and follow instructions (which I usually don't) but the first line of the pamphlet was to read and follow the instructions, it will be easier to put together. Well, not only were the instructions a bit confusing they were wrong and luckily the glue hadn't set and we were able to take the little wooden dowel thing out of the whole. (I had to bake him a cake with a lot of frosting after)
The unit does look good though."

"I was somewhat disappointed in the overall looks of the bench. I wish the color in the catalog had been more true-to-life. The color was not quite what was depicted in the pictures. It said it was "dark oak" however, instead of the deep brown shade shown in the picture (which would have matched my bedroom suite exactly!), the piece has a lot of red tones in it and does not match my bedroom suite as well I had thought it would. Also, there were two small brace pieces that my husband had to re-attach because they had been put on incorrectly and then came off during shipping. One piece was completely split and we had to glue and clamp it before we could re-attach it. If I had ordered this piece and had to put it together without the help of another person, it would be difficult to do so. The bench is now put together and with the exception of the difference in color, it matches my bedroom suite - right down to the pulls on the drawers! I plan to attempt to put a stain on it this Spring and see if I can get the color to match a bit better."

"This bench looks really great! That said, it was NOT easy to put together......it is cam and post. Says to put posts "flush" (try marking them) If you don't put post in deep enough it pulls out. If you put them too deep the cam won't catch and it warps. You can try to squeeze it back in shape but four of ours broke. We had all ours posts in and then had to reset them all. Two went through the wood on outside. Drawers were a piece of cake. They gave us 3 choices return, rebate, or $$ off next order. No hassle"

"The bench looks very nice when assembled. I t s not a cheap particle board furniture item. We use it as an entry peice to take our shoes on & off and store jackets, hats, and gloves. If you have a handy person around to assemble ...it is well worth he money It is a sizeable task to assemble though."

Good looking but disappointing kit

"The good news is that the bench is attractive. The kit was very well packaged, parts were well marked, and the individual sorting and bagging of different parts was a big help. I am very experienced in assembling furniture kits. I would not recommend this for a beginner. The directions were by far the worst I have seen. Including very poor punctuation and several errors in the diagrams. If I had not had my experience, it would have proved very difficult. Dowels/dowel holes did not fit well and required trimming. Some of the bracket mounting holes were drilled so deep that the only material between the part and the outside was the veneer. The basket screws were very tight and poorly machined."

"This is a beautiful Item. It is not easy to assemble. The instructions are not clear step by step. We had to put it together backwards to figure out where things go. The twist lock screws that they use to lock in the sides to the horizontal pcs. wern't easy to do, Ended up putting a hole in the bottom shelf trying to get the pcs together. The baskets are put together with screws also that didn't want to go into the tubes. Very expensive for the trouble we had but a nice product when finished."

"This bench has roughly 10 billion parts (hyperbole), it took me about 3.5 hours to assemble from getting it out of the box, gluing each dowel, placing each screw, and assembling each piece. There were times during the assembly, I was worried it would never end. It is a beautiful bench though, I guess I just figured for a price, not all assembly would be required, at the end I was surprised there wasn't a can of varnish and a brush with instructions on how to finish the wood!!"

"Although we were excited to receive this as a gift, upon delivery we were truly disappointed. Shoddy materials (paperboard) with thin "veneer", inadequate sino-american instructions, and missing pieces frustrated us in the assembly and evaluation. We have successfully assembled complete rooms of prefab furniture and this is by far one of the lowest quality we have seen. While the design and size of the unit were ideal, the execution and quality of the product leave much to be desired. Save the money and frustration: have a custom piece built."
