Really Bad Product Date: August 2, 2009
"I saw other reviews that the Torrence Ladder Coat rack was bad. I should have listened! In the 1st place, I chose the "dark walnut" version-- it's actually flimsy particle board, with a painted-on walnut color. But that would be okay, if you could assemble it. The instructions are extremely poor. The parts and fasteners don't fit properly (holes drilled out of position, etc.). The fasteners themselves are cheap, so if you try to force them they just break. I tried to just use my own fasteners, but when I drilled holes, the particle board split open. Maybe if this was a $29.95 coat rack, you'd just laugh. But at nearly $200. there's nothing funny about it!!!"

Assembly nightmare! Date: July 10, 2009
"This piece was the worst I have purchased from HD! My husband used many of his engineering skills and half the tools he owns to put this rack together. The quality of the hardware is awful. Half the cam bolts broke, the holes were improperly drilled and the assembly directions are poorly written with multiple misspelled words! It took the better part of three hours to put this together. After two hours, we were ready to scrap it and send it back. However, he got it together and it does look good. The value of this rack is not worth the aggravation of assembling it. I was embarrased to tell him how much I paid for this piece. The reveiws I read warned of assembly issues. Please heed the warning. I would not recommend buying this piece."

"My boyfriend tells me this was a bear to put together. But he did it and it is relatively stable (which some coat racks are not). You can use the tops of each supporting pole as well as the hooks to hold things, so actually there are 8 places that you can hang your garments. The 3 shelves are also useful to hold purses, hats, scarves, gloves, etc. So for its 18" square footprint, it is a very useful piece of furniture."

poorly tooled!! Date: June 6, 2009
"One should be able to assemble this in about a half an hour - it me THREE b/c NONE of the components were tooled properly and would not fit together correctly. I have two other pieces from Home Dec. Coll. that went together very easily, but not this! Also, it's not that great looking. At least it's functional - once you jimmy it together with your own nails and glue!"
